It's the most complete game I have ever played, they've managed to fit in so much stuff and it's so obvious they had an absolute blast making this game - it really shows itself while playing. Of course the fan service in this game is absolutely amazing, and sometimes I feel so happy for noticing a tiny little reference or know what an obscure trophy is before going to look.

As for the gameplay, well it's easily as good as it was in Melee, perhaps ever more perfected. I have noticed they've toned down some characters (Marth), and toned some up (Fox and Falco), making for a much more balanced game where no character has that much of an advantage over the others.

I've heard some negative comments, but I really like The Subspace Emissary, the gameplay is really fun (Although I have heard it takes a turn for the worse with the last level), and the cutscenes in it are pretty good.

Playing to get all of the challenges, and unlock the stuff behind the doors is awesome, and adds so much longetivity to the game.

And did I mention the music? OMG it's amazing. The main theme - win, and I love the fact that they've orchestrated so many old Nintendo tracks for this game, they all sound really good (I mean they even orchestrated the music played on the route between Pewter City and Veridian City in the original Pokemon for God's sake!).

The stage builder, although a bit limited, is good fun too.

So yeah, basically it's as simple as this - every Wii owner has to get this! I can imagine even if you don't really like fighting games it's worth it (I don't, and I love this), as you can just button bash and have a blast!.
*Jealous*. :D

I so do want to hear a release date......

Properly can't wait for this. All my exams are long finished by then so I'll have plenty of time to get stuck in.

sounds like you wont be celebrating her birthday with her... ;)
Now this wasn't what he expected: a Utopian society full of Nazis with pink bobblehats and swollen, bright children full of tiny insects that could teleport, whose statues should provoke world peace instead of simply spreading jam over Robert Downey Jr.

Definitely. I am SOOOOOOOOOO looking forward to this. Perhaps I should start playing some Melee to get my eye in (hate to admit it but have never really played a Smash Bros game before :( )

I look forward to getting my ass kicked by my fellow forumites tho! :D

To those who imported this early - how's it holding up? Were your early impressions accurate? Still playing it?

During the first few weeks I must have clocked up around 30-40 hours.

Bottom line is, if you are a nintendo fan, or indeed a fan of gaming culture during the last 20 years it really deserves a look in.

I've not touched my wii in the last 6 weeks, but I've had a lot of friends away during that time, so I caveat it with the below.

It's certainly riotous in local multiplayer (getting exponentially better as more players are added) but the online play suffers from being, well, shit. Inconsistently laggy, useless random play functions (if one player drops the computer takes over from them). Singleplayer mode is expansive, if not innovative.

If you really enjoy smash, then the online play is saved by the 1v1 play as it's basically the same as competitive play, but they need to sort the lag out as it's horrendous.

From a content perspective though, it's stunning. THey didn't quite deliver on the "No Clones" front, but the characters are almost all individual enough to make it fine, and the amount of stages is awesome even not taking into account the stage creator. The item selection is fair, but it seems a little less inspired and varied than Melee.

By far the best part of the game is the sound. It's perfect, for any fan of gaming during the last 15-20 years. Sakurai seems to have pulled out all the stops to get orchestrated music and it makes such a difference. I could spend days listening to the game.

There is also some irony in the fact that nintendo owners had Snake, and indeed some of the soundtrack to MGS4 before PS3 owners did, but that's besides the point.

Yeah I did the same where I hammered it for a few weeks and then Mario Kart came out, then GTA IV and then Rock Band so I haven't touched Smash Bros. in quite a while.
It's not a slur on its quality though, more that I'm a gaming whore.

I'm looking forward to more people picking up the PAL version as it'll mean me getting right back into it.

The bottom line is that if you loved Melee then you will love this. More of the same with few noticeable gameplay changes but new characters, stages and extras. In fact, there's enough stuff packed in that I would only just have finished doing everything now if I had been playing every day since I got it.
