At least the whole cuffle is over really for now but for how long ya reckon? there will be other manhunt 2 situations, and i really think that this is only the start of it but we'll see

Possibly not - this will hopefully be seen as a benchmark case, the BBFC have been burnt in the process and maybe games will be brought under less Draconian scrutiny in future.
If you think about what filmmakers are allowed to get away with now; Saw, Hostel and it's ilk would probably have been banned outright following the introduction of the Video Recordings Act back in 1984, but now gore-nography is a mainstream phenomenon, lifes one long slippery slope into depravity. At least I hope so. Christ some of the stuff you see in some 12A movies is a bit near the knuckle as far as language, drug use, sex, violence and all those other fun things.... and would've been at least an instant 15 rating back then.

Oh, come on. The BBFC examine everything they classify (or indeed refuse classification) in detail. Their opinion is informed. They have been overruled by the independent VAC; if anything, this shows that the system works.

Didn't I read in games TM's own pages that the BBFC only 'play' or see a select portion of the game, having developers send them a disk with a selection of the game's 'worst' content, because they don't have the time to see the whole thing?

I remember reading something similar. Its a little like only watching the grisly parts of something like Irreversible and then deciding the movie's reprehensible, or only seeing the gore in Evil Dead and banning it without taking into account the overall tone. You can't really judge something without the context, so I do hope that's not true.

They're provided with video footage I know that much, but not sure just how much footage there is, I can hardly see them, say, sitting through a video of a 40 hour + RPG.

However, hopefully this Byron report will see to how things are classified in future, I do think all games need to carry a legal classification now days though, if only to try and prevent finger pointing from the media

Not true with games they play though them with cheats not seeing them as a normal player would.

That's exactly why I said in detail; they are provided with cheats so they can progress through the game without the faff of energy bars etc. In order to rate the games without this they would all have to be expert games players with a lot of time on their hands. A degree of the process also relies on developer openness; this is the bit where the developer shows the BBFC the 'worst elements'.

Ryan Payton of MGS stated in his podcast, that he had to create a video of the game(MGS4) being played all the way through from start to finish, making sure they used as much violent actions as possible for the ratings board submissions.
