Im looking for a decent RPG to play on the pc the last one i bought was Neverwinter nights 2 and havent seen anything with a half decent review since. Can anyone reccommend one to me?
Am contemplating oblivion but did not like morrowind as felt it was too open for me.Not that i want a completely linear game mind you.Is oblivion a big improvement?

Oblivion is smaller and a bit more streamlined than Morrowind. You can travel around much quicker and the character interaction is better (less reading massive screens of conversation topics with each and every NPC saying the same thing.)

The main storyline can be completed fairly quickly if you ignore all the sidequests. I've pretty much ignored the main story for around 40 hours and I'm still enjoying it.

World of Warcraft? That kept me going for two years.

You forgot to say the combat is much much better and you have a lot more freedom to make fun for yourself.

plus due to the weird AI thing they have which they didnt really get right, random cool things happen. Like bar brawls for no reason.

Seriously, Oblivion is the shizzle. Not convinced about Rogue Galaxy. Dragon Quest is also worth a look if you haven't already.

my only problem with Obliv is the way the monsters and enemys level up and such the way you do. meaning that when your level 30 your killing bandits dressed in rags with weapons worth 1000-3000 gold. Plus it kills the sense of yourself becoming all powerful that you get with RPG

Really? I haven't noticed this, I can kill the annoying monsters like Imps, Wolves, Mud Crabs etc with one swing of my warhammer, or a single fireball.

Humans and Goblins etc take a more, but never a lot. I've never felt like they were a problem for me. The only thing I've had trouble with are the Guards (because they seem to gang up in groups) and Spirits (because I don't seem to be properly equipped to fight them).

Maybe I've installed something that changed this? I haven't done it on purpose, as far as I can remember I have only installed a couple of interface mods. I have only played about 45-50 hours so far and not much of the main storyline, so maybe I haven't seen the right fights yet.

Yeah, as you play the enemies level up too. It's good in some ways; every mission is always a challenge, and it's a good alternative to morrwind, where you could bump inot an enormous enemy by accident and be killed in a single hit (not to mention not being able to attack them until you reached a certain level), but it does remove the sense of empowerment.

The only way to feel you are getting more powerful is to concentrate on magic; the difference in power is especially noticable when it comes to conjuration magic, as summoning big dadra is obviously a lot cooler than imps and Rufius. Your fighting skills go up, but the only way you can notice your combat skills going up is by the more powerful creatures you have to fight, but it never feels cool- just a trudge.

Still a great game though. You can pick it up fairly cheap now too, and in my opinion there's at least 150 hours of solid gameplay in there.
