Possible Scam help!

Post by Somerset Bumpkin » Fri May 04, 2007 1:07 pm

Selling my car on auto-trader for house deposit, recieved this e-mail. Me smells a scam, what do you guys think?
Dear Sir/Madam,

I am interested in purchasing this vehicle ,it suits my requirements perfectly,I run two garages ,one in Dublin and the other in the Netherlands, i shuffle most of my time between the two .
THESE ARE MY TERMS OF TRANSACTION:

1) I AM OKAY WITH THE STATED PRICE OF £11,995.

2) I WILL BE PAYING WITH A BANKER'S DRAFT / CHEQUE WHICH I WILL ALLOW TO CLEAR BEFORE THE PICKUP/SHIPMENT OF THE CAR.

3) I WILL INCLUDE FEES FOR SHIPMENT IN PAYMENT, THIS MY SHIPPING AGENCY WILL USE FOR PICK-UP.

The excess funds will go towards covering costs for shipping, shippers fees, insurance, tax and any other expenses that might be incurred getting it down to the new owner.

I will want you to get in touch with the following details if my terms are okay:

FULL NAME............................
ADDRESS........................
TELEPHONE NUMBERS...................(Mobile and Land)

As soon as i have your details,i can have payment effected immediately, all things being equal,we should have this wrapped up by the end of this week.

Pls note that you'll have to send on the balance on the funds that you'll get to my shipper so he can come attend to the pick up as soon as you make the car ready.

I beleive that most transaction are based on trust,so i will look forward to a succesful transaction with you.

Best Regards,

Baker James.

P.S:I can be reached on (+447031893608.).

Looks it...

They want you name address etc, they'll just come and jack the car. Possibly. Ring them up posing as someone who's been given their number... see what they've go to say..but don't forget to withold your number.

or it's a scam and they charge £11000 for shipping fees etc.

I thought you were asking for help with a scam!

Not really.

Probably is, though - for one thing, if the guy has two garages (in two diiferent countries), he'd be able to afford to pay more than £11,995. Thus wouldn't, I'd imagine, be bothered with your car

Steer well clear and report it to Auto Trader.

I work for a well known motor insurance company. That, my friend, is a scam, without a doubt. If you get a cashiers cheque (or any other form of signed payment) it will bounce higher than flubber. Avoid at all costs.

A common addition on this is that the cheque they send you will be higher than the amount. You bank it. They say, pay us back the difference in cash. You do. Check bounces...you know the rest..

Scam. Stay well away.

In any event, no one would ever require you to pay their shipping/pick up guys, as you have absolutely no contractual relationship with them whatsoever.
