The View
Re:
The Artic Monkeys became huge and that became every record companies "must have" sound. I think they're alright, but I hear more over-hyped bands at the moment than ones that justify the hype. 'Course, they could be amazing live, so that could be where all the fuss is.Kaede wrote:Don't like them at all. How the hell did they get signed?

The scratchy two guitars, working class lyrics, high energy post-punk thing. You really don't see the connection? First thing I heard by The View I thought straight away, "Someone's been signed on the back of the Arctic Monkeys then".Kaede wrote:I see your point Hendo, I just don't see how The View sound anything like Arctic Monkeys?
Or if you prefer, the Libertines method.
Jesus, now there's a talentless pile of poo right there!

Maybe I'm splitting hairs here, but as far as I can tell:Hendo wrote:The scratchy two guitars, working class lyrics, high energy post-punk thing. You really don't see the connection? Arctic Monkeys = Punky power chords, fast drumming, northern sounding gibberish. 1 good song.
The View = Crap Jangly-pop, open chord guitar riffs. Smug singing. No good songs.
As for the Libertines, complete bunch of nob heads, but frankly I'm ashamed to admit I really like 3 or 4 of their songs. I've even somehow managed to see them twice.
I'm just gonna leave this thread and go and listen to my Smiths albums.

I agree.
Does anyone listen to Xfm?
There's a trend over the last few years to pick up on bands with a really bland sound but just 'indie' (whatever that means these days) enough to justify people thinking they're cool.
Razorlight, The Kooks, The Fratelli's, The View and even the Arctic Monkeys. They normally have at least one song you don't mind but the rest is radio freindly bland rubbish.
Did I also mention Keane, Snow Patrol, Coldplay...
Boring, Boring, Boring.
Actually since this topic is about The View specifically I want to say I HATE that same jeans song. It sounds like an unfinished levellers ditty sung by an adolescent drunk. Boring.

I bought the Views record and thought it was pretty good. Nothing special, but catchy pop rock stuff. I think the same of The Fratelli's, but they have some better songs.
Record companies love these bands because they can make quick money out of them without upsetting the fans if they get droped to smaller labels. Most of them are good live.
I can't understand the massive hype Arctic monkeys or Razorlight get over the rest. I think Johnny Borell wrights some of the worst lyrics ever.
I listen to XFM when i can. The X-list is one of the best programs on radio.
Christian o connel hasn't been quite the same since leaving.
agree with \"michaelarby\". The answer are a quality band. i went to see them before xmas. Roadstar also played, another proper rock band. It's one of the best gigs i've been to for a while.

XFM Manchester is brilliant, I've no idea how different the London one is, although Guy Garvey (him from Elbow) has his own show on a Sunday night that is broadcast on the southern station too.
All the current indie bands in that style are vastly over-hyped - Razorlight especially. I do though like The Fratellis and as cliched as it sounds the guy from Arctic Monkeys has some cracking lyrics.
\"Yeah I'd like to tell you about my problem, you're not from New York City, you're from Rotheram.
So get off the bandwagon and put down the handbook.....\"
Ace stuff.
Apparently The View are supporting Primal Scream on a forthcoming tour.....good luck in not coming back junkies!
