I was mooching through the GamesTM retro anthology two earlier and was reading the Panzer Dragoon Saga feature. It mentions the fact that Saga had bonus content (extra money) if it found a save for Panzer Dragoon Zwei on your memory card and that this also unlocked features in the other game as well.

Can anyone recall other titles that rewarded prior purchases with extra content or offered bonus content on other games?.

The Suikoden games always rewarded you with extra characters if you had a completed game save from the last game. Silent Hill 2 gave some scenes in Silent Hill 3 too, but they didn't really effect anything.

The whole GBA - GC connectivity flop thing offered loads of stuff like that. The only thing I actually tried was to get zer0 suit Samus in MP2, that was pretty cool

Lego Star Wars 2... Which lets you play as the characters that were in Lego Star Wars if you got a savegame on PS2, GC and Xbox. On X360 you'll have to buy the extra ones from the marketplace.

Even some erhm... EA Sports games offered extra cash/equipment/other cra... err... stuff when you got 2 or more from the same year...

PS2's GT 3 + GT4 Prologue saved data could be passed accross to the full content release of GT4, licences, cars and cash

Keeping with Gran Turismo, you got something like 10,000 extra credits if you had a Gran Turismo save when you played GT2 for the first time.

You can use a SweetTooth costume for one of the monsters in War of the Monsters if you have a Twisted Metal save.

Burnout Revenge gave you an extra car if it detected a saved game from Burnout:Takedown.

super smash bros melee had a pikmin trophy if you had a pikmin save.
as mentioned, gt 4 allowed you to skip the first 2 licenses if you had played prologue, and gave you extra credits if you had a gt3 save.
metal gear solid had a boss that could read your memory card and tell you if had played any other konami games.
evo 6 allows you to carry over any edit info from evo 5... if that counts...

theres loads more...

f zero gx had a thing where you could take your gc memory card to the arcade machine and unlock some new cars...
