Honestly, I like physical for everything except when it comes to Switch. Swapping carts is just such a ball ache.

I bought a digital copy, but the internet here is so slow I might just have to start playing from the demo anyway

Well it's all the same anyway.

My fancy Collector's Edition is on its way. It's probably going to be winter before I start playing it though.

Very early but I find it quite slow with the setup with the thief character. A lot of dialogue before anything begins. I mention this only cause I'm worried at doing this eight times with the other characters all over again. If it is literally a series of JRPG stories in one game.

I went with the thief character cause in the demo I tried out the hunter character and couldn't understanden whaten peoplen were sayinest

I beat the first chapter of the thief guy. On the one hand as someone with no real nostalgia for 16bit JRPG I find the random encounters tedious and the setting up quite slow. On the other hand I was impressed by the SMT/Persona-esque emphasis on exploiting weaknesses and clobbering enemies while their incapacitated.

I liked this fight and the music

You can store energy which you spend in big multi-combo attacks, so the trick is banking it and paying it out when you have them weakened or debuffed, so this could add an interesting dynamic when the party roles get filled out.

But again I'm way over random encounters and surprised that they are in this when everything is moving towards selecting encounters on the field these days

I liked that whole thing. The set up, the “dungeon”, the boss, etc. I also like that you could steal from NPC’s I thought that was a cool idea

It's just I'm torn between the seeming genericness if it but also how good I think the combat stuff is implemented. But if the setup is as slow as that eight times over the I don't know how it could feel.

The encounter rate is way too high. I find the map hard to explore and the areas hard to find my way through cause of the low angle on a fake-2D environment and the depth of field blur that makes distant areas invisible and I keep losing my place cause of random encounters. Why did they keep this particular holdover from the 16 bit era when the best SNES JRPG (Chrono Trigger) didn't have them?

Like I'm trapped in a canyon running away from birds every thirty seconds, it's wasting my time here

:o
Alfyn chapter one
🤐Is Alfyn gay? Interesting subtext going on there

"Hold onto my sack so I can be with you"

😏
🤐

This game is selling very well apparently. But can it top the unstoppable almighty game-of-all-time Crash Bandicoot?

Why, is it ugly? :(

In other news, Nintendo and SE released 8 different cover artworks for the game on mynintendo so you can print your favourite and put it in the case. Pretty neat: https://my.nintendo.com/rewards/83df80de16f0f75c
