Try either a component or S-video cable, a component will allow prog-scan where avaliable (Shadow of the Colossus etc) too.

I got the HDTV player here, works fine with some games, and not at all with others. And you should only get it if you want 480p or 576p, with 720p and 1080i you get big black borders around a 480p image.

When it does work it does look much better then without it when using component leads in some games. Some games look the same. But of course... When you get a better picture you can see all the pixels much clearer... ;)

Do you not need to put in a disc before you play a game when using the exploder HD player. Thats the only thing putting me off it.

Yes, just like any cheat disk (or freeloader on the Gamecube).

It depends on the game. PS2 Outrun 2006 looks absolutely amazing in 480p on my HDTV. PS2 Resident Evil 4 looks dodgy on the other hand, even in progressive scan.

We haven't got a HDTV but I was watching Freeview on a 26" JVC HDTV last night while out at someones house and the quality looked quite poor compared to our 5 year old Sony SDTV, I really think HDTVs are only good when displaying a HD picture. My expectations where so much higher for HDTV.

I'd like a 28" 4:3 TV with an RGB scart connector for all my older consoles, and especially the lightgun ones ;)

One of the reasons I chose my new TV was because it is a good all-round performer. Freeview looks pretty good on it, and I've no intention of getting sky HD any time soon, unless they dramatically reduce the price.

But yeah, a lot of HDTVs don't display a good "standard" definition signal - I went into John Lewis to see what the picture quality was like on different sets, and rather than having them set to display a HD demo, they were all showing a variously grainy/blurry River City. Not the best way to convince punters to part with nigh-on a grand of their hard earned readies, surely?
