So, Right Now Who Do You Think Will Win

Post by jorji » Mon Nov 06, 2006 4:12 pm

Quick question, Quick answer!

Who do you predict is going to win the console wars this generation (by win i mean sell more consoles)

i know only the 360 is out right now, but if you had to put money on it right now, who would you back?

personally i would like nintendo to win, but i think microsoft will.

sorry if this has been done but just signed up and would like to know what you all predict.

I don't think there will be an outright winner. I can't really judge over who will win now as it is too early and we will only know in a couple of years time when lots of games are out as i think consoles live and die on the quality of the games.

I voted Wii though

Well how long is a piece of string?

I think it is unfair to say who will be the overall winner, because the Wii is something different and can't fairly be put in the same group as the ps3 and 360.I do believe that the ps3 has nothing to worry about, the wii short term looks strong but long term I'm not so sure as for the 360 its had a good start in the U.S and Europe but I don't know if it can compete with the Final Fantasy and MGS,sure it has Halo and Gears of war but it relys too much on first person shooters.

Only time will tell though.

As for the vote I voted Ps3

i was thinking about final fantasy and ps3 the other day, does anyone else think they will end up coming out on 360 as well as ps3. SquEnix don't really seem tied to one company anymore, what with ffXii( ) coming out on every format, ff back cat coming out on advance and DS, i was thinking they might cross publish the final fantasys as i'm sure they would want to publish on a format where they would make the most sales (ie 360 and ps3, i don't think they will make it to the wii, although that might be pretty cool, turn based physical hacking and slashing...) and i reckon once lost odyssey and blue dragon come out in japan 360 sales will go through the roof.

In the long term I think Sony's PS3 will come out on top. There's no denying brand power and whilst Sony won't have as huge a chunk of the industry pie this time around they'll still, no doubt, come out on top, followed by MS Xbox 360 then Nintendo Wii.

I'd bet my house on it.

I'm not so sure. Don't Sony publish the main FF games?. If so, they must have some exclusivity thing.

i'm not to sure, ff7 and 8 both came out on pc as well as PS1 but published by eidos i think. if they are ps3 only looks like i'll be having to get one down the line at somepoint, well assuming that they are better then the recent installments (12 aside, that might actually be pretty good...)

Microsoft have had the lead for a year. I doubt that will help them, as that never helped Sega, and look at what happened to them and teh Dreamcast. Add to that the various hardware problems of the X360, it just mimics Sega's fall from grace...

Nintendo came in with the GameCube, but soon went off in their own direction independant from the rest of the pack, which is what they will do here with the Wii.

Sony have been slammed recently for various things, but in all honesty, they will be the ones who reign supreme again I think. I can't see Sony making any bad turns anytime soon, despite all the problems they have been having regarding the PS3.

And as much as the PSP gets a bad rep, it's only being compared to the DS, which issomething completely different. The PSP sells alright, and Sony aren't making a loss on it. It is keeping steady at the moment. Sony aren't in a rush, and don't mind taking it easy where the PSP is concerned

i would have thought the 360 seems wayyyy more popular then the dreacast ever was. the dreamcast was much loved by gamers but the general (ie fifa buying) public never took to it, however i think the 360 seems to have crossed this boundry pretty well with its resonable price tag and fancy graphics

Difference being though SEGA were finacially screwed at the time, which is simply not the case for Microsoft...unless you know otherwise my good man?

And jimbo_wardle is right, Xbox/360 have both been far more successful and are far more popular inside and out of the industry than say SEGA's Saturn & Dreamcast ever was.

I'd say the the PS3, followed by the wii, followed by the 360. I voted wii though.

Its too early to tell for definite though.

I'd be curious to compare the success of the 360 so far with the success of last generation systems, after one year, to see how the 360 REALLY fares after a year, compared to how other systems fared in the past...

That would be interesting.
