Sadly, it doesn't look like the motion sensing components of the PS3 are going to be put to good use. As you can see above in the screenshot, this is how you will play Virtua Tennis 3 on the PS3. Sega just wants people to think that their motion sensing controller is a good idea, but this is just dumb, and its going to be more complicated than anything to try and control the characters on the screen tilting the controller everywhich way. The controller could have been put to good use, but this just looks, sadly, too complicated. You are not emulating what it is like to play tennis, you are just swinging the controller forwards and backwards.

With the Wii controller, you just whack the controller against the air, just like a real tennis racket, and your character on the screen will do the same, but with the PS3 controller, you push the controller forward, and backwards. Is this really necessary? If you can't do it right, then just don't try. People were wondering if the Wii would exhaust the gamer, it looks like the same question will be asked for the Playstation 3.

We presume that Virtua Tennis 3 players will also have the ability to play the game the 'old fashion' way by just pressing the buttons and moving around the analogue stick. If you can't, then this game is sure to be the first most frustrating game on the PS3. We'll have to wait and see what its like. But from what it looks like, this isn't going to be an easy game to play. But.. well... it unique alright.

Whats next? God of War where you make Kratos attack by tilting the controller sideways and then pulling it upwards? Hopefully a game will come along at some point that will make good use of the motion sensing features, the same goes for the Wii.
If one can't use it for good, don't use it at all...

Just because their controller has motion sensors, it doesn't ecessarily mean that every game has to be forced to use them. Unlike the Wii which is a gimmick from the word "Go". Just because you own a gun, doesn't mean you have to put it to use...

In all honesty, I can only see a few good uses for motion control in a controller, and that's in games like Super Monkey Ball. Take Yoshi's Universal Gravitation for example, where it has been used to good use. The Wii was developed with motion control in mind for 70% of it's games, so a tennis game on the Wii you would expect to use it opposed to standard controls. The PS3 on the other hand has the tecchnology, but I am sure people woul drather play Virtua Tennis 3 in the conventional way...

If you want to play a simulator of tennis, buy the Wii. If youw ant to play an arcade game of tennis, buy the PS3. People are getting disappointed because their Ps3's (Which they don't actually even have yet) aren't going to work liek the Nintendo Wii ~ If you want a Wii then buy the actual Wii ~ Don't buy teh PS3 and expect it to be the Wii

You make some good points but until you've actually played the Wii you shouldn't call the controller a gimmick. I own all the current gen consoles and out of all of them I play the DS by far more than any of the other consoles I own and before it was released people called it a "gimmick". After it was released it outsold the PSP. People forget that not all games for the Wii are going to be entierly orientated around the controller.

Sorry, I just needed to say that. I hope I didn't sound like too much of a knob.

EDIT: Oh, yeah and the PS3 doesn't need that controller to sell well. It'll sell by reputation alone.
If the monkey could type one keystroke every nanosecond, the expected waiting time until the monkey types out Hamlet is so long that the estimated age of the universe is insignificant by comparison ... this is not a practical method for writing plays.

Not all games on the DS uses the touchscreen, and so I don't expect all games on the Wii to use it's motion tracking features.

Maybe at first, developpers will try to use those features in a very lame way (like we've seen for most early DS games that used the second screen only for menu selections, inventory management or useless, slapped in at the last minute minigames.)

It's going to be the same for the Wii. Early games will mostly feel like controls are trying too hard to use the Wii features, but as time goes by, we'll see games that use the features well, or not at all.

Same will go for the PS3, but I think the target market of the PS3 won't bother with this, as they don't really buy the PS3 for all it's innovative gameplay opportunities...

While Wii fans are buying the system exactly for something different...

That's why I think the feature will be used more in Wii games, than PS3 games...

Motion control for the PS3 is just a nice optional extra that I hope doesnt get used just for the sake of it. Other than for playing Super monkey ball or a flight sim there really isnt any benefit in the thing at all.
