OOPH

I tried playing Danmaku Unlimited 3 Which is a Shmup on Switch (A Shwup?) And man is this game just on a mission to make you feel bad about yourself.

I’ll give it a bit more of a go because I like these types of games but initial impressions is this is not great.

Tried to make the best of the good weather by sitting outside and playing on the Switch, but no matter where I sat the light reflections meant that the gameplay was sub optimal :-(

God there's just something so satisfying about destroying your old builds in this game.

It's very good but its possibly not what you expect, or even want. That opening is deceptive

But it's very very good.

Shovel Knight

Rusty. I remember I could do a no-damage run of Ducktales back in the day (MM 2 & 3 also to be fair) it's amazing how much Gamer Skill you can just lose. I decided to start with the original game in the Treasure Trove collection, as these controls are largely new to me. It's fun so far, I've gone for Spectre Knight first, no idea if that makes a difference. Although it does irritate me that I have died twice so far. Again, Rusty... :|

EDIT: Spectre Knight and King Knight both defeated. Clearly, King Knight was "Stage 1" as I breezed through it with little problem. Starting to adjust to the controls and really getting into the swing of it.

Second playthrough of State of Decay 2.

I usually dont play through modern games more than once but this is brilliant.

Finished Nine Parchments earlier. Only had the last stage left to do. There was one particular encounter that took me almost a million tries and after I finally got past it with a ton of luck and beat that level I realised that thanks to an update all my skill points were refunded so I was actually fighting some of the hardest enemies with base stats. Made me feel a little less awful.

Overall it's a nice little game, kind of a mix between twinstick shooter and RPG. That said I found the skill trees rather lacking – spells are found throughout the game after beating bosses so the skill trees pretty much just are status buffs (more damage, more healing and so on). While it certainly works, it's one of those things that isn't really exciting to develop because you basically just boost your attributes. There are moments in the game which rather clearly show that it was made for multiplayer in mind; switching between damage spells and healing spells when playing solo can be a bit overwhelming in the heat of the moment and there's one recurring enemy type you can only attack from the back which is a pain to fight against when you're alone.

I did enjoy it though. There's a nice sense of progressing throughout the game, the stages are very beautiful and there's a lot of visual diversity. It's set in the same universe as the Trine games so it features very saturated colours all around and a nice soundtrack as well.

I think it's on sale for Switch at the moment so I'd definitely recommend giving it a try. There's a demo, too.

I don't now why or how but for some reason I decided to put Zelda back in my Switch and, believe it or not, I think maybe, possibly, it might finally have clicked. After playing Vampyr for a week it feels good to have something that lets me play for a bit without asking me to talk to NPCs. And yet I was glad when I finally stumbled upon the first memory and could watch a rather nice cutscene, highlighting some really cool character designs I've always liked about this game even during the phase when I disliked pretty much everything else.

My dislikes for the moment are pretty much limited to weapon durability. I still think it's stupid and unnecessary but I've come to terms with everything else. Maybe, hopefully. I've ventured to Zora's domain today and saved the Divine Beast in that area. Ive definitely seen better dungeons and bosses in Zelda games but I'm willing to forgive them because the entire thing was a nice change of pace. Stopped right then and there so I don't know what to do now but for the first time since having the game I'm actually looking forward to playing more.

I don't believe your lies.

But my favourite but of the whole game was the slow trek up to Death Mountain. Seeing it slowly appear closer and closer. This game does exploration so fucking well.

It can be like that, though. Your mood changes and something that left you cold suddenly fits the bill.

I remember moaning about Skyrim after about 20 hours because the dungeons seemed a bit cut and paste compared to Oblivion. Six months later I got back into it, and now I'm 50 hours into my 3rd character build and, strangely, my third console platform with the game.
Is it on the Switch?

Cuphead - Jesus! It’s bloody brilliant.

Forza Horizon 3 - first game I’ve tried that’s X enhanced/4K. Holy Crap!!! I think it may just have been worth it, looks ridiculously good!

Just got Fallout 4 on games pass and ordered Witcher 3. Having a more stable frame rate compared to base PS4 versions will make these far more playable I’m sure. Can’t wait to try them, happy with my purchase so far.

Not a game but I also got Black Panther 4K Bly Ray (4K blu day player was part of the reason I got it instead of Pro). The difference between streaming 4K and having a 4K Bly Ray is night and day. On Blu ray it looks so much better it’s not funny.
Trust me, if you’ve got a X and not watched a 4K Blu Ray you owe it to yourself to try. As long as you can afford to buy one that is. They really need to come down in price.

Am back at the Zelda's.

Went in stone bird and hit it with arrows. Was good, then I went elsewhere.

This game very good but too much game. Need less game. Too much.

Mix it up with Vampyr, or some other talkative RPG. Works really well.
