Metal Slimes are so annoying

Every time one gets away that’s just thousands of XP down the shitter. And as far as I can tell you can’t do anything about it.

I’m fact I’m in a place where a lot of the lower tier enemies are just running away automatically which is very eye roll. This game is stingy with XP already, it doesn’t help when even common enemies run away

At level 50 on dqviii I stopped being able to level unless I fought king metal slimes, that was when the grind kicked in severe and I was completely unable to do tons of optional content cause grinding was so difficult

The content was optional but vital from a story point of view cause it was about your backstory. I couldn't see the main character's backstory cause levelling was almost impossible

Got a full cast of characters and had a sequence of pretty good cutscenes and one surprise story reveal.

This game is so fucking bland but I absolutely love it. I think the ‘Pep’ system is bad. I think the party AI is lacking. I think the story is the most regurgitated, trope heavy to the point of comedy and just all round lazy thing I could think of (Although big shout out to the cinematography team. On fucking point).

And the rest of it is just the most blandest JRPG I could think of. I honestly don’t think I could recommend this to anyone under any circumstances.

And I fucking love it and I don’t know why. Maybe because I just like JRPG fundamentals and man if this game isn’t those to a fault.

Oh shit I own DQ 4 and 6 on the DS and had no idea. When did I get those?

That means I have 4, 5, 6 and 9 on the DS and 8 on the PS2...

Well, it would be foolish not to pick up 7, right, I mean why no

It's good on PS2. That one has the really nice music.

3DS has a very chimey sounding soundtrack

Makes sense but I don’t even know where I would set a PS2 up

I don't know if VIII supports it but component cables for a PS2 clean an image up nice even if it's SD.

For presentation PS2 is the way to go with VIII. Best visuals and sound

DQVIII looks really good on modern TVs. Probably down to its very clean visuals and lack of small details. That's what killed FFXII on HDTVs.

That said the 3DS version is fine, too, but slightly inferior due to a bunch of little things (midi soundtrack, downgraded visuals, simplified text menus, slight censorship, no more super sayan form).

His power level, it is 100.

I remember this game having really great towns and a nice day/night cycle.

I was so fucking blown away to find those DQ games last night and I didn’t even know I had them. It was like when you find a fiver in your jeans. Except instead of a fiver it was a 70+ hour JRPG and instead of jeans it was a shelf
