Hello there party people!

Post by Rosetinted Gamer » Sun Sep 12, 2010 1:24 pm

Picked up the 100th issue of GTM today and thought to myself, "Ooh, I've not posted on the forums in a while"

So, how is everyone, keeping well I hope? Lots of new faces on the boards I see and minus a few of the old regulars.

Myself? Well, been keeping busy in a new job. A small family business that sells menswear and is the outfitters for over a hundred schools up and down the country. Okay, its not video games but its a lovely place to work, pays quite well and is traditional retail; as in it doesn't open Sundays, Bank Holiday Mondays and whatnot.

Sadly Game On is on its last legs. Soon after my departure all the part time staff were layed off and more recently Darren, the deputy director, stepped down after the owner, Emma, said his salary will have to be halfed. Unfortunately Darren was the drive behind the busines and Emma was purely the money and lacked any real business acumen. Speaking to Darren, profits are non-existant and the business probably has not much more than several months left before it closes its doors for good. Sign of the times I guess.

Still, I've kept my hand in video gaming and use some of my spare time to write for an independent games website, (7outof10), hosted by a couple of friends, one of whom is a programer for Rare. The site is slowly finding a foothold and we're getting more and more interest from industry bods willing to do interviews and the like with each passing month. Recently 7outof10 were invited down to London to try out the 3DS but I, due to other commitments, was unable to attend. Bugger. Still, getting the occasional free game thrown my way is always a bonus.

So, what's new with you fine people?

I've been studying learning how to speak, read and write Thai. I thought it would be pretty difficult, but it turns out it's near impossible, so that's nice. It's a tonal language, so one word can mean five things. The other day I proudly announced to the teacher I was pregnant, which was pretty far away from what I wanted to say.

And I had to look after monkey for a bit but it peed on me and bit me. There are photos in the photo of yourself thread.

Are you back for good now? Hope so, always enjoyed your posting.

Yeah, back for good, well at least in an ocassional posting capacity. Moving out of video games retail has left me a lot more chilled about video gaming, I'm enjoying my hobby more. In between playing games for the website most of what I'm playing of recent has been either retro games or stuff downloaded from XBL. I can't believe the sheer amount of quality coming through XBL at the moment. There are, however, a few full pricers on my wanted list.

I did try studdying Japanese once, but found it difficult. I don't think I'm much of a linguist.

You still writing, mate?

Welcome back, dude. There was some discussion in a thread about people going M.I.A. It's good having oldies back. Shame to hear about the business, but if you're enjoying games more now then at least something good has come out of it. I often find the industry side of gaming to be crap, just enjoying the games as they come is the way to go.

As for me, not a great deal. I start an OU writing course next month, so I'm preparing for that, also hammering through a few games while I have the chance. :)

Well, let's see I am now gainfully employed in these tough times and I'm back at college part time as well. I have also joined a friends amature paintball team, which is a lot of fun. San Francisco now has a weekend artist market and I've been going to that. I plan on renting a booth at the market one weekend to see if anyone will buy my paintings. I still need to find out who I need to talk too in order to rent one. I'm also still painting on street walls, but I'm getting old and I hate running from people (the homeless). Plus that art is hot right now and I can make money off it. It only make sense to do that as my next step in trying to be a working artist and people who see my work tell me not to waste my talent. I may never get there, but I'm not going to stop trying.

Yesterday I did my fall house cleaning and donated a shit ton of old clothes to the poor and homeless. I also went to the pound, becuase I'm looking to adopt a Chihuahua pup. The pound was just flooded with animals. I guess people could not care for them in these tough times. Other then that I'm still working my fruit and veggie garden (or as I call it my urban farm), gaming and chillin with my peeps. Welcome back RG!! :D

Its a bit more like "Are You Being Served?"

The family business has been around since 1886. We get all sorts of 'well to do's' and celebritites in there. Had Richard Hammond come in with his Wife to buy school clothes for their youngest daughter last Wednesday. Mr Hammond seemed a pleasent enough chap.

Apparently Ronnie Barker, when he was alive of course, used to be a regular!
