Hacked ?

Post by Skev » Sun Aug 15, 2010 1:17 pm

Afternoon all

Bit of a strange one here...

I was happily using the internet for my usual fix of dog on horse on car porn when I decided to check my emails (googlemail). It asked me to sign in as there was suspicious activity. It asked for my mobile number to send me a pin (which I done reluctantly). After it asked to change my password I logged in to find "I" had sent spam emails to everyone in contacts list. I knew this as some of them couldn't be delivered.

I check the recent activity page and it said someone from Belgium had been on my emails from a mobile web browser. I clicked the "log all sessions out" and deleted the emails.

I've done some spyware scans etc and nothing has been found.

At this present moment in time I'm slightly worried more stuff is going to happen but a search has advised that they might be dummy spam emails. I don't know though. Is there anything to be worried about ? Whats the best course of action to stop this happening again? I'm usually very safe when browsing the web, not clicking on dodgy links or giving email address out to random sites unless I trust them.

Any info would be nice. Thanks y'all !!

 I also got the phone number update in my gmail account about four days ago. I just hit the no thanks button and I have no issues what so ever.

Go buy ioio System Mechanic and scan your computer, but I'm sure your computer is fine.

I would have said no to the mobile phone thing but it wouldn't let me log in without doing it, thats why i was slightly concerned.

I'm not so worried about my PC being fucked, as the damn thing is likely to explode at any moment anyway, just want to make sure it doesnt happen again and also find out how it happened originally.

It was legit and done by Google. Google did an update to Gmail last week, so a lot of things in gmail have changed. The cellphone thing was for Gmail for mobile and if you lose your password to Gmail, google will sends it to your phone via text message. When you log into Gmail it's https or hypertext transfer protocol with the SSL/TLS protocol. Where http (like this site) is unsecure https (like gmail and their apps) are secure, so I don't think you need to worry too much about your gmail account being messed with. It can happen, but it very slim that it will.

I do recommend iolo system mechanic - just to have it on your computer.

Anyways, do you use buzz in your Gmail account? If so can I join your followers list?

This thread was hacked by a spammer but it's been removed now, ruining the irony.
