I completely agree with the general sentiment in this thread. The digital market - whatever is on sale, be it music, films, programs or games - is far too overpriced. Downloads by rights, should be dirt cheap; and if "they" want to curb piracy, reducing the price dramatically would go some way towards achieving that aim. There are really small overheads involved and we as consumers are getting a raw deal in that we have no "hard copy", we miss out on the nice packaging and anything that comes with it, and we also loose the ability to re-sell our purchase. So why does the price not reflect these factors?
The PC game download marketplace does have some hope. Steam isn't the only place you can go to legally download games, and it isn't always the cheapest either, a quick google search will give you some sites offering decent deals. There's a long way to go before I would consider the prices to be fair but it does seem to be moving in the right direction.
The console download market though, you can forget it. They're monopolies, and without the competition driving a price war, they can charge what they like.
Hopefully things will change in the future, but I really can't see it, especially not when people will continue to actually buy these things at the current prices.

Batman GOTY is £29.99 on Steam. The hardcopy version was £13 from Amazon, and it was on my doorstep the next day.

Someone, somewhere, is having a fucking laugh.
