Wii SD Download Question.

so, i've got my SD card in a Wii that isn't my own...that sounds weird...anyway, moving on. can i download something on to the SD card and use it on my own wii at home? what about if i download something and choose "gift". does that only apply to gifting another wii that is online, or will it also work if i gift it to the SD card?
