Re: For the magazine: Curse of Monkey Island
Having never played a PC game that didn't have "Broken Sword" or "Call of Cthulhu" in the title, to be honest i'd never heard of this series til I read about it in GTM. Not played one either.

Re: For the magazine: Curse of Monkey Island
This was the first proper game I got for the PC and it is still the oldest PC game that I still play regularly. It is the best Monkey Island game in my opinion and the graphics and voice work are still good enough to hold up today.
Some of the puzzles are just genious. Pouring oil on a guy so you can peel the map off his back? Stopping a song by introducing a line that doesn't rhyme? Replacing a painting's face with your own to create a family resemblance? Brilliant. I can't believe no one makes games like that any more.

Re: For the magazine: Curse of Monkey Island
This was the first PC game I ever owned, and I loved it to death. It had everything, puzzles, intrigue and a caustic wit that still has me laughing. Having played through the recent 360 version I found that I was constantly switching back to the old PC graphics and reminiscing about the good times

^ Curse is the third game in the series. The one that was re-released was the first one, The Secret of Monkey Island

I have many fond memories of this one, I can still remember most of the singing pirates lines, and the banjo duel was absolutely brilliant!

Re: For the magazine: Curse of Monkey Island
After the ending to the second game, it felt like there didn't really need to be a third one. Saying that, Curse was a worthy sequel. It was the first in the game with voice acting, and after spending so long with the characters through the first two games it was great to hear that the voices were done with great consideration and excellent comedic timing. I don't think any game will ever have a better minor character than Murray the Talking Skull.
Re: For the magazine: Curse of Monkey Island
An outstanding game, probably the second best in the series for me (in mega monkey mode of course)! From making a wannabe pirate cry to giving Murray hassle and knocking him off his plank to fighting a duel with the most feared weapon of all, banjos, it was excellent. As one of the first PC games I played I loved the sharp dialog, visual style and one of the best point and click systems I've used (the funky piece of eight thing). A classic which needs a DS re-release.
* Murray: "...and the forces of darkness will applaud me as I STRIDE through the gates of hell carrying your head on a pike!"
* Guybrush: "Stride?"
* Murray: "Alright then, ROLL! ROLL through the gates of hell..."

Murray is an awesome character.Guybrush: If I gave you your arm back, what would you do with it?
Murray: I'd terrorize the South Seas! I'd torture the living! I'd demolish the… er… What I meant to say was, I'd use it to pet kittens.
Guybrush: Nope. You blew it.
Murray: Drat.
In addition:
¡Sí! ¡He dejado en libertad los prisioneros y ahora vengo por ti!
Re: For the magazine: Curse of Monkey Island
Despite Ron Gilbert moving on since LeChucks Revenge the new art style, combined with top voice acting and of course Murray, made it an excellent entry into a well loved series.
Now about that XBLA port.....

Re: For the magazine: Curse of Monkey Island
I've not really played any of the Monkey Island games - I love the concept of the point & click genre, but in practice I just don't have the patience and/or enthusiasm for them. I did have Escape from Monkey Island on PS2 (I appreciate this is the worst in the series, and a poor platform to play it on), but never got past a couple of hours. I do, however, intend to buy Monkey Island 1 & 2 when they finally come to Euro PSN.
