giant bomb review. 5/5.
For all the meaningful changes and additions that have been made, this is still more Super Mario Galaxy--which is to say that it looks and sounds about as good as a game for the Wii ever has, with consistently inventive level design, and exceptionally responsive gameplay. We all like to give Nintendo a hard time for pandering to casual and nostalgic audiences, but when it brings its A-game, it's still able to deliver a fun, accessible game experience that's second to none.
hell's, yeah.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2
Might just be that I never bought into the Mario Hype after Supermario 64, but I always fail to see any thing revolutionary in any of the games, always seems to have been done else where, Money for old rope so to speak, maybe I should'nt judge somthing like this I haent played but always seems to me Maario games are one of few that get praise for re hasshing the same concept while other games that do the same thing get panned.
I must be missing out on somthing somewhere.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2
games are the way they are today partly to mario 64. there were 3d games first, but due to the controls, mario 64 was the first 3 dimensional game if you know what i mean. walking on a grid with 8 directions in a 3D space after mario 64 meant that game was dated, man. i've heard some credit that to nights on the saturn, which maybe true, i haven't played that. but i'm sure nights didn't have surfing a turtle shell on lava. the things you can do in mario 64 are amazing if you think back to that time in games.Snaggletooth wrote:Might just be that I never bought into the Mario Hype after Supermario 64, but I always fail to see any thing revolutionary in any of the games
galaxy takes a game structure from 64, getting 120 stars. but for what you do in a mario game, all it is is a structure, not a formula, like say the zelda games, meaning they play incredible differently. and, dude, 3D platformers have had a stab at anti-gravity before, but none have managed to use that as a basis to make a game out of, then went and chucked a shed load of ideas on top of that.Snaggletooth wrote:Maario games are one of few that get praise for re hasshing the same concept while other games that do the same thing get panned.
there's a review somewhere that says SMG2 has more ideas in 1 world then most games have in their entirety. another that says they felt like they was always seeing something new all the way through the game. that's why mario games get praised. that and a few of these reviewers are talking about how much bolder the level designs are. when thinking about the first galaxy, it's exciting thinking about what them reviewers mean by that.
and i don't mean to go on about this but...(too late i guess.) there's only been 3 of these games in 13 years or so. one of them a lot of people were down on because it wasn't mind-blowing or perfect or something. if anything the praise this good should be very exciting, it seems critics and fan's are far harsher and put more scrutiny on mario games than most other game series' out there.

That's an edited version of the gamestm review, and the score is wrong. You'll be able to read the proper thing here on Monday morning.MikeHaggar wrote:2 more reviews

I have to say that Super Mario Galxy 2 will be a great game, I hope that there will be some great levels in that game and things like that.

i hope there are things like levels in it, too. i think a mario game would be sorely lacking without levels.

game informer review
http://gameinformer.com/games/super_mar ... equel.aspx
9.25/10 (i guess.)
CVG
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/ar ... ?id=247718
9.3/10 (again, i guess.)
gamespot
http://uk.gamespot.com/wii/action/super ... eview.html
10/10
and a bunch of other great reviews. so far the lowest was from gamepro who gave it a 4.5/5 (which is like a 9/10, right?)
seems to be doing well. knocked super mario world out of 4th best rated game ever to 5th. still, more reviews to come i expect, could still bring that back down.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2
Instead, Mario leaps, flips and flies through a goliath series of levels filled with the sort of boundless invention that makes 99 per cent of other videogames look tired and stale.
hell-a-yes-a!

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2
I expected the game to get good reviews but I'm still surprised at how its pretty much getting 10's (or close to) in each magazine. These next 3 weeks of waiting will be hell

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2
i know, dude. all i want to do is play that game. it's gotten to the point where all the other game's i'm playing right now are distractions to keep me occupied until SMG2. can not wait until this bad boy lands.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2
I did contemplate importing it but decided against it in the end in case Nintendo ever worked out how to perminantly stop people using the homebrew channel to play Imports. This is a game I can see myself returning to a lot. I'm kinda glad I have Super SFIV and my PS2 backlog to work through to keep me preocupied.
