PS3 data transfer

Post by celery7 » Wed Feb 10, 2010 11:11 pm

I found a few similar threads to this but nothing that addressed my particular question -

Yesterday my 60Gb PS3 stopped reading any form of disc :( . Gutted, wtf? etc. In all other ways it's fine, psn downloads work, the internet browser works, movies and music from usb devices work.

After a bit of reading on the internet it's evident the blu ray drive is the issue, I found a few 'fixes' that did nothing so I'm looking at either a repair or a new console. I'm leaning towards a new slim for the larger HDD space. If I get one will I be able to transfer everything from my 60Gb across? I've got loads and loads of stuff on my HDD you see, 26 psn games, updates and patches for a tonne of games and their related saves. I know I can back up most of the saves but it's the other stuff I really want to be able to transfer, my broadband is really slow so having to download all my stuff again would literally take days.

So has anyone else done a system to system transfer and if so did it copy across everything?

And does anyone fancy buying a mostly working 60Gb PS3? You can repair it then wallow in the joys of backwards compatibility, charge 4 dualshocks AT ONCE then look at pictures of stuff from SD cards. Imagine that.

Thanks Thin Ice, that first link is to the guide I was planning to use - hopefully if I follow that I should be OK.

That 2nd link just confused me though, the article confirmed that everything will be copied as I want but the rambling dude in the comments threw me. I don't think he was trying to transfer to a second PS3? Anyway the lesson there seems to be if someone tells you to delete your hard drive give it some serious thought before doing so.
