A few problems here and there....

Post by CcraiggyO » Sun Feb 01, 2009 1:21 pm

Stuff not working makes me sad, so can any wonderful people help me with this?...

1) The theme on the PS3 keeps resetting back to original, even when i change it the description still says normal. This doesn't happen on my American and Japanese profile though.

2) My CD drive doesn't appear in my computer anyore and i suspect the registry needs to be fixed, is there an easy way to do this without my PC being killed by my own hands?

Cheers!

Start -> right-click 'My Computer' -> Properties -> Hardware tab -> Device Manager

Expand 'DVD/CD-ROM drives' and see if it is there. If it is right click the drive and select Properties and tell me what the device status says.

If it isn't in the DVD/CD-ROM section but it is in another with a :?: then right click it -> Update Driver -> Advanced:
Make sure 'Search for the best driver in these locations:' is selected and untick the 'Search removable media' box but tick the other one. type in (assuming C:\ is your hard drive) C:\WINDOWS\inf and click next.

Hopefully this will reinstall the drivers which may have been corrupted or something.

"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available."

Is what it said and the following advice you gave didn't work. At least i know for sure it's a registry problem now.

I had error code 32 a short while ago, you need to delete some registry keys. Pretty simple to do, just make sure you don't delete the wrong ones or you're fubard.

Follow the guide at the bottom of the page, its pretty simple... just be careful! : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

oh, to start the registry editor:
# Click on the Vista Start Orb Launch Regedit (Button)
# Click in the Start Search Dialog Box
# Type regedit
# Press enter (or double click Program: regedit)
I assume it works the same for any version of windows.

Obviously back up all your files before dicking about with it. You might want to try googling the name of the disk drive to see if you can reinstall the drivers from online first though.

Assuming you have some form of hand/eye coordination you'll be fine. Just don't mash the keyboard with your forehead or something whilst the reg-edit is open.

Just bumping my own thread as i have another query....

This was an external hard drive that used to be housed in an WD500gb case. However, one day it fell over and stopped working so it was extracted from said case and plugged into an old computer to rescue the data. It worked yay! However, i woud like a new case for this beast so i can carry it around again. Also, it's a 5.25" HDD so i need that size, i haven't been able to find like it but plenty for 2.5" and 3.25".

So this is what kind of state it is in. Help will be much appreciated!
