Well, it got better as it went along and the third part wrapped things up really well.

In a way, we now have the "feature film", and it may be the best way to watch the three episodes - as one. Unfortunately that does mean it comes across like a lot of sitcom films - small vignettes and scenes that tie together.

I'm going to spoiler this next bit in case people are watching tonight's repeat....

Favourite moments for me were the kids on the bus (and the way Lister echoed those words as he left "Kochanski") and the sarcastic little comment about the viewers considering themselves real. The typewriter moment was classic Dwarf and the Coronation Street segment was not overdone. And kudos to Dave for their scheduling - putting Back to Reality on afterwards really helped cement the ideas and plot of the new one.

Watched the third one earlier, and I pretty much agree with everything everyone's said so far. It was very nice to have it back, and, while I'll not be too sad if they don't, it'd be great if Dave (or the BBC, even) commissioned even a few more episodes. They should definitely bring back the laughter track though, although given how much CGI they used in the specials they might not be willing to go back to doing 'live' sets.

I can see them getting a season or two. It's Dave's chance at getting some original programming. I definitely think they should, but the laughter track really needs to be brought back in.

I actually enjoyed those Easter episodes.

Thanks Rumblecat. I managed to see all three episodes and sadly I thought they all smelled of poo :(

There were a few funnies in the second episode but most of it was just sad. There really was very little humour in the whole thing and I think they have just made me think less of all the original series, which is a real shame. The squid thing was a total cop-out and The Cat especially seems to have lost all his magic as he didn't make me laugh once.

I know a guy who refused to watch the new episodes in order to avoid sullying the memory of classic Red Dwarf, and I have to say now that he had the right idea.

I thought they were God awful. I was expecting much & it somehow managed to be even worse than expected. I literaly didnt laugh once. Most I did was a little smirk at a couple of points like at the typo's when Lister is writing.

I just wish I could un-see it.

You could try giving yourself a severe concusion in the hope that you will develop short-term amnesia and forget the last week or so.

Of course you might accidentally overdo things and end up forgetting everything, including where you live and all your friends and family. It would probably still be worth it though.

I watched them all over the weekend and thought they weren't too bad. I had very low expectations after series 7 & 8 and was pleasantly surprised to find they were much better than both of the last two series.

Not good enough to come back for a full series though.

I enjoyed the first two, but the third was low on funny bits. Seems they forgot it was supposed to be a comedy. I'd still welcome a new series.

I would be very cautious of a new series. What I saw last night really made me feel that Chris Barrie and Danny John Jules are just not funny in those roles any more.

Incidentally, the shop they went in - They Walk Among Us - is not far from where I live. Fascinating eh?

I thought they were quite meh to be honest. I chuckled at a few parts but the whole thing just felt kinda wrong. Too much CGI and not enough puppets and costumes, and i agree with the comment about the missing laughter. Still, they kept making reference to things happeneing 'after series 10', so maybe they're contracted for two more series?

Red Dwarf needs a laughter track, on series 6 or 7 you can watch extended episides and they come with no track and it's really hard work to enjoy them.

It sounds really sad, but as it's almost like a stage show you need to laugh along with people. Why change the formula which worked for 8 series?

That's my biggest complaint too, RD is the kind of show that needs a laughter track :(
