Iggy Pop has sold out!
Has anyone seen the recent insurance adverts featuring Iggy Pop? Out of all the people I would expect to see hawking insurance, he certainly wasn't even close to making the list. Rather disappointed doesn't even come close to how I feel to this.
He who expects nothing is rarely disappointed.

Haha, shit really?
Oh well, I don't think it means he has sold out. To me, selling out is changing the way you behave, the music you make and your image to fit what's popular to try sell records, or when bands become brands (think Ramones, Motorhead, AC/DC). Iggy has never done any of that. If musicians want to make some money on the side, especially at his age, they can go ahead. I consider those carefully marketed and manufactured NME wankfest Rough Trade Records bands to be alot worse.
Raw Power and Funhouse are still 2 of the greatest rock n roll albums ever made.

i used to have strong views about musicians doing adverts and selling out. Now as bands don't sell as many records because of piracy, i really don't have a problem with them making money outside music. i saw the Stooges twice in the last couple of years and they were blinding (nothing off Raw Power though!) so i'll forgive Iggy anything.
EDIT: he does look dead wrinkly though. Maybe they should only show it after the watershed.

Like doing adverts for cash? Can you imagine Iggy saying "where's my fuckin' cheque?". I can...Dillinger22734 wrote:I don't think it means he has sold out. To me, selling out is changing the way you behave
It's not the first time Iggy's sold his soul though. Anyone remember the advert he did for an airline a while back? I can't remember what airline it was, but Iggy was hanging out in first class and a stewardess asks him if he'd like a drink, he replies "mine's a large one".
I was always considered selling out as changing the style of music you make to appeal to a more mainstream audience, thusly selling more records. Adverts aren't really a big deal, I doubt there's many people in the world who would turn down £1million to advertise a mundane, everyday item that they didn't use. Money for nothing and chicks for free. Someone let me sell out.
The only people that it impacts on 'negatively' are the fans of the band/artist that was in the advert. Too bad.

Let's go to the mall!
