No, that's the predecessor, 'Leviathan'. Although it confused me that the first song on 'Blood Mountain' mentions a white whale. The lyrics appear to have been cobbled together with the aid of some sort of thematic gibberish spouting device.Shaolin_monkey wrote:Is that the one with the White Whale song from that freaky cartoon moormc posted?

Aye, I went to one of them years ago (2001? 2002?) it was alright but I don't really like music festivals. Was meant to be going to the one this year in Barcelona but luckily plans have changed. Nothing against the bands or anything (would quite like to have seen Shellac) but the best place for live music is in a shitty half empty bar or basement with flickering neon lights and a general air of potential violence. If you can't run up and rugby tackle the lead singer within fifteen seconds of any moment then it might as well be Wembley, with T-shirts on sale in the foyer and "We're so glad to be here, thanks for coming."
Anyway, at the moment listening to-
Warm Soul - Roy Hamilton
Music for Airports - Brian Eno
30 year Low - Mendoza Line
When The Roses Bloom - Laura Cantrell
Green Apples - Jon Jackson
Spiderland - Slint
The Man-Machine - Kraftwerk

Just bought the new Foals and Elbow albums and both are fantastic. Foals shouldn't be passed off as another "NME hype" band, they're supremely talented and original and the fact they left Hummer and Mathletics (their two fantastic early singles) off the album shows they have confidence in their material. No re-releasing singles 5 times until people finally buy their album for them then - The Killers and Kaiser Chiefs take note.
As for Elbow, they're probably the most underrated, overlooked band in Britain but they have released 4 albums which stand up against anything produced by any band over the same period. It's atmospheric, intelligent, beautifully arranged music and deserves to be listened to by everyone. DO IT!

Agree. I saw Foals in Manchester a few weeks ago and they were absolutely blinding, I'd had the album for a while but seeing them live took the songs in to a whole other dimension. Two Steps Twice is awesome live.aidanon wrote:Just bought the new Foals and Elbow albums and both are fantastic. Current Listening:
Why? - Alopecia
The Raconteurs - Consolers Of The Lonely (never a big fan of the first album but this is a massive improvement)
Grand Archives - Grand Archives (Sleepdriving is my song of the year so far)
also loving Noah And The Whale, Protest The Hero, and the new M83 album.
And yeah, that Crystal Castles album was a huge disappointment after the Alice Practice EP and other stuff. They went less crazy. Less crazy = less good.
