Arcade Cabinets

Post by Snaggletooth » Fri Mar 11, 2016 9:07 am

Wondered if anybody here has tried building a MAME cabinet, Picked up a Pi 2 recently and really tempted to build it into an arcade machine.

If anybody has done what plans did you use or did you get it pre made?

Hope if you're thinking of spending even a tenth of £1200 you end up with something better looking than this monsterosity:

Wow £1200 for that pile of shite.
Appreciate cabinets are expensive but for £1200, I'd want customisable vinyl's on the side, choice of trim so forth.

Still toying with the idea of building a unit, see how finances look come payday.

I actually got a PS3 kiosk in the basement that i was hoping to use as a mame machine, just by setting a pc beside it, but also thinking of going the whole hog and building one from scratch, i have enough screens and computers to use on it, but the controls is the problem where i am lost.

I have seen that XArcade panel that would be great to build a cabinet around, anyone here have one of those?

I was thinking about building my own. On about building a new PC id thought I'd use my old one. Having added up the cost and time/effort I started to think about having one made instead. As usual the wife has talked some sense in to me as we've nowhere to put it. This place quoted me just over £2000 for a four player cabinet with 19" screen and the usual bells and whistles.

A good source for information and help is the JAMMA+ forum:

I have a JAMMA cabinet and a couple of boards. I keep meaning to get an old PC turned into a MAME box to run in it (with the JPAC connector I already own; I can use my Xbox with it too.)
