Re: Jeem : London's Calling

:( well that my time done, back to the real world tomorrow.

Anyway....

Went back to the Science museum, it was ok though the whole save the world speel was rammed down your throat at every turn ....

Did have a very nice section showing the history of the first (steam) engines...
Image

And the space section had some nice pieces in it (the most where replica's of course)...
Image

Sopwith Camel...

It was then on to the British Museum, I was there 5h (they kinda kicked me out at the end) and maybe only saw half of what I wanted.

Aside from the classics such as the Elgins and Rosseta I came across this stunning wood carving, its only 14 inches high but the level of detail is staggering....
Image

And as usual I gravitate towards the more macabre pieces, this one is a French plate from the 18 hundreds with a take on the book revelations...
Image

:? wait wasn't she in the Elder Scrolls...

And finally I found something even better than Ben's praline cookies....

There's a little bakery just down from the natural history museum on the way to south Kensington station selling these insanely good maple and pecan scones so, so, so good.

Well time for bed bye.

That woodcarving is AMAZING :o. Those skills from the past are being lost to lazy humans who would join now just 3D print.
Btw, that scone looks lovely but in all honestly, looks like the Baker jizzed on it

It's been a great read Jeem, good bit of work, hope you enjoyed yourself in London, please come again :D

 nope trust me its an old fashioned drop scone like me' nana used to make, slightly burnt and crispy on the outside yet moist in the middle with the maple syrup blending with the subtle flavour of the pecans to create ambrosia on earth (the greek god one not the full cream milk one).

:| god just looking at it annoyes me that I didn't try and get a supply in before I left, it was only 5 stops away as well

Oh and it works out I spent £36 on fare's, I found the tube easy to navigate though a little stuffy at times.....and I am glad to see the back of Holborn station those escalators where scary as feck...

:| also didn't have a particularly last good night, was woken up around 2am by what sounded like 4 northern lads who thought it'd be fun to have a karaoke session.

Called security on the fekkers only for them to catch a second wind around 4am, this time someone else called the front desk only for the numpty's to start a fight with security.

So around 5 the polis showed up and crash bang wallop peace descended, Nice of London to give me a good goodbye  .

Just been through this thread - looks like you had an awesome time there Jeem! Also chuckled at Jax's Mr Biscuits reference.

:) boredom can be a dangerous thing.

Turned 46 yesterday so that me over the hump and heading to 50, its pis#ing down here in Ayr just now as a storm front moves over, a perfect start to my week off.....

 and I thought f#ck it ! , time for a midlife crisis, let's goof of somewhere for a few days.

So I've been on the web for the last hour umming and aweing, and I thought I found the perfect solution in a three day break to Athens, a little sun, a few museums, that would do the trick.....but....

DOH !

....I forgot that my passport had expired in November

So though I wont be seeing any sun, I can see some of the finest museums in the world, so its back to London tomorrow :)

No real set plan, just a day at the V&A, the British museum and maybe the Natural History again, yeah just a little break from normal I suppose but it'll do.

 of course without a passport I've had to find alternative transport....

http://megabusgold.com/The-Gold-Experie ... -the-tour/

Booked myself an overnight bunk there and back for £80, cheaper than flights at £112 and way cheaper than the train at £160

:!: must remember to get more of those scones :!:

:| well I made it...

Coming down in the coach was an...interesting experience, you have to sort of wedge yourself in or else you'll slide out into the passageway.

And to be honest if it wasn't for the price i'll never do that again...well except for the return on friday

 and oh god ! the horror, the horror, of a bus overnight toilet, haven't seen anything that bad since the bad old days of British Rail.

Think I managed a couple of hours sleep, and we where 3h late because of a 4 car pile up on the M1, but It kinda worked to my advantage as the hotel let me in 2h early.

The rooms ok (below) and at least the carpets cleaner than the last one,but annoyingly i'm on the Victoria station side so it may get a little noisy, time will tell.
