Average wage in 1981 was £7k with average house price being £24k, albeit unemployment was rife.One-armed dwarf wrote: ↑Tue Oct 16, 2018 9:38 pmIf I had a time machine I could probably afford a deposit. Do you reckon my 2018 credit rating will suffice for 1981?
You can console yourself with a pint for 50p whilst saving up the £30 to buy an Atari game or just go home to watch 3 channels of TV, hoping that one day you can afford a video recorder.
But it was a golden age for video arcade games.
Re: The Rant Thread
I don't own the porch thing, I rent it. And it is dumb and annoying. It has both internal and external doors so I have to open both to get into the house. It is a useless room that makes it very difficult to fit my car on the driveway. The mail slot is smaller than most and is hidden around the side where no one can see it. The door bell doesn't work so the only way to attract my attention is to bang on the glass, which I am unlikely to hear since there is an air gap and an exterior wall in between. Luckily only one person has visited me in the five months that I have been here.

Ok, fuk that then. I'm going back to 1955 and becoming a baby boomer instead.shinymcshine wrote: ↑Wed Oct 17, 2018 4:30 amAverage wage in 1981 was £7k with average house price being £24k, albeit unemployment was rife.One-armed dwarf wrote: ↑Tue Oct 16, 2018 9:38 pmIf I had a time machine I could probably afford a deposit. Also I'm bringing some post-1955 books with me and writing them and become a famous rich writer guy. I'll be the new JD Salinger. Now what.

Re: The Rant Thread
Yes there's the whole argument about the cost of carts to a disc, but even then the IP rights should have gone up by inflation to reflect the larger teams making games.
So games should be around the £100 these days, we should just be glad of market forces keeping that price down I suppose.

Re: The Rant Thread
That's probably the reason we get so many Season Passes and DLC and whatnot these days though.

Re: The Rant Thread
Games do not need to increase in price since what was quite a small industry is now huge. Mortal Kombat II was the first game to sell one million copies. Now a lot of games do that anyway. Gaming is main stream, there's no way you're telling me that the amount of money to the amount of income something like CoD brings in doesn't cover costs and a whole truck more. The trimmings are just sheer greed.sleepery jeem wrote: ↑Wed Oct 17, 2018 12:53 pmalways surprises me just how inflation proof games are, in the Nighties carts would cost you £50 on average (£70 for grey imports) so prices have barely shifted in 20 years.

For the most the whole MTX and season pass stuff is nonsense. It doesn't go into the games, it goes into shareholders pockets. Go look at the shares index of the big 4 or 5 game publishers and you'll see what I mean.

Re: The Rant Thread
I’d be happy paying £100 for every AAA game and them doing away with MTX, season passes etc. To be honest.

Re: The Rant Thread
Game budgets have skyrocketed. There was a time when a single person could make a game. Back in the heady days of Atari where a bunch of stoners just made loads of games all the time.
Why is season pass stuff nonsense? I don't get it really. So long as there's transparency of the quality of content that it will get you it's perfectly fine. Some games have really good DLC, content that's better than the main game in a lot of cases.

Re: The Rant Thread
I want to pay one price and get everything. I hate it when I have to scrabble around on Wikipedia trying to figure out what content is available and what packs I need to buy to get it. If a game has a single season pass that does that then fine. However, if they have multiple season passes or content that is not included in the season pass then that is really confusing and really unfair.

Re: The Rant Thread
I guess I've not experienced that really but if you're talking about cosmetics and stuff it's not the stuff I've ever been interested in.
Actually maybe FFXV is a bad example of what you're talking about. There's the season pass which includes the first DLCs. But it doesn't include any of the other stuff, that's included in the Royal Edition. But that edition doesn't include the newer DLCs coming out

Also none of it includes the vital story prologue which is the CG movie.
