I didn’t bother with Milk Wars because I’ve never read a page of Doom Patrol. Which is probably both good and bad. Good because Doom Patrol and related books seems to be a good half of DC’s line up right now, so saving money, but bad because I might be missing out on awesome stuff.
I only got through book one of Annihilation and really didn’t like it. I haven’t even started book 2 yet because I just can’t gather the interest.

I might have a lot to say about Dan Slott’s tenure on Spider-Man. But between the writing and Immonen art, this is hitting the jackpot

I know no one else cares, but I’m so desperate for Peter and MJ to get back together in regular continuity. It is the only couple I really care about and all the other romances Peter has had since MJ have been so benign
I’m even happy if they just play the cat and mouse thing. Just bring MJ back into Spider-Man

So I’m reading Mister Miracle again and fuk this is a good book. But I’ve just read the first two issues again and think I picked up on stuff I didn’t pick up first time. I could be wrong, but I don’t think Scott has been affected by the Anti Life Equation, I think everybody else has, but it’s making him feel abnormal. I think that’s why when him and Barda go back to join the war and Scott tries to tell her something is wrong she says they don’t have time for it. And when Granny says she was Highfather’s spy and Barda kills her that’s Darksied’s influence trying to keep Scott from learning that he is the son in the prophecy that will Darksied. And I can’t quite work out Orion yet but I think he tries to set Scott and Barda up to be killed by Granny because he perhaps also knows that Scott is the one to kill Darksied, but is jealous that would make him not the “chosen one” or something.
I’m having a very different experience with these comics second time around. First time reading them was akin to electric. There’s an exciting energy to the comic, even if it doesn’t make sense, it’s in the subtext to it. Second time reading it is more methodical. When you know what’s coming things that didn’t stand out first time start to make more sense the second time.
I still don’t know what Metron meant though by “You are not to know the face of god”. Hmm.

I have read each part of this 15,000 times and for the life of me I can not work it out.
“All right, everyone knows that Descartes doubted everything. The worlds existence, his existence, truth, everything. Until he finally figured out, the only thing he couldn’t doubt, was that he was doubting.
Because you can’t doubt you’re doubting, because you’re doubting. So that’s ‘I think therefore I am’ and all that.
What people forget is that there’s a second part. He’s still stuck. I mean, just because you are doesn’t mean anything else is. He could be a brain in a jar, or in a dream, or controlled by a demon. Whatever.
So he has to get out of that, so he uses this other argument. About god.
He says, some things are better than other things. And god is the...what you’d call the thing that is all the better things.
So good is better than bad, god is good. Strong is better than weak, god is strong. Kind is better than cruel, god is kind.
If there are two choices, god is the better choice, he has the better quality.
And then he said, to exist is better than to not exist. So god exists.
To be is better than to not be. So then god is.
And then if god exists, and he’s good, he wouldn’t put us in a jar. Or in a dream or with a demon.
And that’s how he crawls out of the doubt. I think therefore I am. God exists. The world is...whatever the world is.
Later, people like Kant and stuff, came on and attacked the god thing. Saying basically the argument didn’t work because...basically, the set up presumed the conclusion.
Once you say ‘god,’ is your definition of ‘god’ is that god exists...then saying ‘god exists, because I said “god”’ that’s just a stupid tautology, word play, not a proof.
But what bothers me is that if that’s true, the word play thing. Then it’s true of all of it, of the first thing. ‘I think therefore I am.’
I mean you’re presuming an ‘I.’ And you’re saying that ‘I’ contains the existence, the thinking. It’s just another tautology, I am therefore I am.
So if you throw out god, then you throw out you. You’re back to the doubting, all of the doubting. Without god, I don’t exist. And if I exist, god exists. We look to find ourselves, to see our own face. And we find the face of god.”

So Marvel have been using the Venom symbiote like crazy over the past couple of months. I don’t know if a bunch of writers just all had ideas at the same time or because the movie is coming out they have just ramped shit the fuk up. But even with the stuff I’ve read I’m confused. First some new guy who I’ve already forgotten the name of got the suit and there was the Venom Inc stuff which was crap. Then in the run up to Spider-Man 800 Eddie had the suit, then Flash became the new Anti Venom, then he got killed by Norman Osborne, and Spider-Man ended up back in black. Again. 800 was so forgettable I literally read it the other day and can’t remember how it ended exactly.
But also in X-Men Blue there was a team up between Venom and the X-Men where symbiotic hunters came in to play. Then there was the Venomized series which I haven’t read yet. And now there’s the new Cates Venom series I started reading today which is loading even more back story on to the symbiote. Or at least symbiotes in general.
I’m just...at a loss. Like it is stuff I’m currently reading. And I’m still struggling to understand where we are.
I will say at least issue 1 of the Venom series was very good. Out of all the Venom stuff lately, it is really enjoyable and interesting. Look at this shit.
Like what is that.
Also, as a side note, I found out the other day that Slott is going to writing the new FF. Jesus. After finishing up he’s run on Spider-Man. I hope it was just a case of writing the same stuff too long which made that book suffer because of the low quality of that and the high quality of Zdarsky writing Marvel 2 in 1 I know who I’d rather see get the job.
Genuinely I think Zdarsky should get FF, Kelly should get Amazing Spider-Man and Slott should get Champions. I think?

I'm surprised unmasked Darth Vadar didn't have Hayden Christensen's face

It's what Lucas would have wanted

Go-Bots Return in 35th Anniversary Comic Book Series
In the new five-issue series, the existence of Go-Bots on Earth has changed humans' way of life. They chauffeur us around. They protect us from harm. They do the jobs that are too boring or dangerous for us. They fight our wars for us. They are friends for the lonely. The only thing they don't do is dream for us... but that could change any day now. For a generation, Leader-1 and the Guardians have said that they were here to help us... but as they become more integrated into our society, the question must be asked: Are they here to replace us?

Speaking of Venom, this turned up today
It includes
Venom: Lethal Protector #1-6
Venom: Funeral Pyre #1-3
Daredevil #323
Iron Man #302
Darkhawk #35-37 (

)
Venom: The Madness #1-3
Venom: The Enemy Within #1-3
Incredible Hulk vs Venom #1
Venom: The Mace #1-3
Nightwatch #5-6
Venom: Nights of Vengence #1-4
Spider-Man: The Arachnis Project #6
Web of Spider-Man (1985) #118-119
Spider-Man (1990) - #52-53
Venom: Seperation Anxiety #1-4
Venom: Carnage Unleashed #1-4
+ Venom Subplots
I know there’s some bullshit in here, and not just Darkhawk, but I think it was a steal at £53. Especially as now it’s selling for over £80. For whatever reason Amazon seems to low ball their omnibus prices and they steadily creep up closer the release.
Very cool.

That.. actually makes Go-Bots sound interesting.

DC’s Black Label kicks off with Batman: Damned in September. Black Label is a new publishing imprint where they are taking DC characters and making them dark and sweaty and violent and stuff.
I don’t know. I subscribed to Batman a month or so go on Forbidden Planet as I’m open to the idea, but as long as it’s out of continuity. Which I don’t know that it is.
