A shame then, but i've been there with the stop gap jobs myself and there is a point with you have to let 'em go.
Oh and Good Luck Ryan... just remember:

Don't be proud of something irrelevant, be proud of an accademic or work-related achievement.

You're proud of whatever you're proud of. You may well be a rocket scientist, but your proudest moment might be watching your kid take their first steps. Ryan is proud of something he did for his kid. Let him be.

Job interviews aren't about honesty, they are about telling the interviewer what they want to hear. There is nothing wrong with telling them about your family but it doesn't make them any more likely to hire you for the job. If your answer can incorporate a story about you excelling at work or giving great customer service then it gives you a slight edge.
It doesn't really matter either way but all the brownie points add up. I'm not saying that you should invent a story, just pick something that you did well and then play up how proud it made you.

I've got an interview next Tuesday. Without going into too much detail, it's as a writer for a gaming website. Now I don't have a lot of experience (I write for Thunderboltgames.com; see link over there

) and I don't really expect to get it, but my general games knowledge is very good, I'm excellent at proof reading and I want to go along just for the experience. However, my CV really isn't relevant to the role (nothing I've done previously career-wise or academically relates to working in the field of writing and/or videogames), so I'm not sure how to approach the interview - I'm going to take along some print-outs of sample writing, and probably save a bunch to a memory stick to take with too. I'm not really sure what to wear and I think the whole suit and tie shebang will be overdressed, so I'm going for a nice shirt tucked in, trousers and I think I'll need to get some new shoes this weekend.
Anyone got any suggestions as to how I can best prepare? I will read through my CV and prepare for any questions pertaining to it, but other than that and be aware of current events in the games industry I'm not sure what else I can do.

Try to shoehorn anything you have done previously so that it matches aspects of the writing job. Being analytical, paying attention to details, having a good memory, judging the wants and needs of others and affinity with technology are all skills that you could claim to be relevant.

Also you can never be over-dressed to an interview, the whole suit and tie thing is kind of an unwritten expectation, I remember during all my HR stuff I always took note of the best dressed (and sometimes best looking too.. thats not too shallow is it?

) off the bat as its all about that first impression when you walk through the door.

Yeah, wearing anything else may be a dangerous expression of your individuality. Most companies want a drone that does what they're told, not a free-thinker

Well it went well and honestly i could not have did any better.
I made it all the way to the final. It was like xfactor where some of us where asked into a room and the reast had to go home then it went another two steps after that.
In all honesty its the best interview iv had had, im proud f how i came accross, the answers i gave and the teamwork and friendliness.
I wont find out for another week or so if i have it
My girlfriend think i will get it. Im usually good in interviews and i told her what i said and the compitition was like (and to be frank the other 2 people at my table who got through to the final stages didnt seem suited)
Heres hoping, i hope i dont get disapointed and end up going into a depression.

i might have to give up my job after being in it for 3 days. i don't get payed for 3 weeks, and the council said they won't help me pay my rent until then, but they will definitely take my flat off me if i can't get the money together. so unless i can get help tomorrow i'm just going to have to figure out a way to get sacked and sign on again all in one day. i'm not to bothered about losing the job because it's shit, but it's annoying that when i have no income, they let me live in my place. and when i finally do get a job, they put me under immediate pressure to keep my place. you'd think it would be the other way around.
oh, and to keep this post more job related than personal trouble related, cold calling sucks. the manager even made me sell a scotch egg today to a room full of strangers for a "training exercise" (was kind of fun) and i'm 95% sure the company i'm working for is one of them scam companies. i was purposefully hanging up on people today who sounded like they were going to buy the insurance off me. i will take there wages, but i won't help them turn a profit. got's me some morals, man.

Well done. Fingers crossed you get it. I managed several teams in a call centre for quite a few years a while back so if you ever need any advice about working in one give me a shout.

Ironically all the interviews which I thought went well I didn't get and the lousy ones I got ( I actually somehow developed a stutter in one of them and still got the job

)
Generic well wishing Ryan.

I have that same problem!
I missed 2 phone calls from John Lewis earlier and phoned them back there but the assessors were busy. Now im worried they have went home, i would have liked an answer tonight. Aghhhh.
Usually when a company phones you only a day after the interview you have the job, right? Please be right.
