Dude, get anything, dont expect something decent, go to a supermarket and charm the **** out of them. Money is money, even if your sitting on a checkout all day. Dont just look at supermarkets, any shop! ****, if I had no money for 6 months i'd be a paper-boy. As much as i hate working in call centres, if theres a job going in one, find out what the company does and go for it. Lie if you have to.

If none of that works become a rent boy. You can get a fair amount of cash for wanking off old men.

Hmm. It went pretty well I think. My actual review was good and I don't think he had any idea that I wasn't happy - in fact he specifically mentioned that he has trouble telling whether I enjoy the tasks I am given or not. It's probably because I am generally pretty stoic and morose most of the time.

I didn't say anything that gave too much of the game away. I said that I felt unhappy in my job and had various small but difficult-to-resolve problems. I also mentioned that I was unhappy with life in general.

He countered by mentioning pay rises but I said that although my salary is poor I wasn't that bothered about the money. With regard to the 'long term development' portion of the review I said that I wasn't sure if I saw myself there in a few year's time.

Hopefully I have managed to give the overall impression of not being content where I am without making it too obvious that I really want to leave. He wants to meet again at the end of the month to go over the long term plan part of the review again so hopefully that will give me another opportunity to seem ever more dissatisfied and see where that gets me.

Unable to do this due to my mental state. I have tried. I hate people.

What do you hope to get out of your insinuated dissatisfaction -- better working conditions, or better pay, or what? Just interested, because it sounds to me like a little pay rise wouldn't help too much, so I don't see what benefit you get out of letting them know you're unhappy. If I was considering looking for another job, I'd just keep it all under my hat.

I just don't want to suddenly announce out of the blue that I am leaving. We are a very small, specialised team and losing me will set our department back quite a bit. I cannot easily be replaced and my sudden disappearance will create a problem for upcoming projects, most of which are worth thousands of dollars. Although I do not enjoy working here my boss is a good guy and I don't want to unexpectadly disppear into to sunset and screw up his plans for the next few years. I only need to give four weeks notice and that is nowhere near enough time to replace me. If he thinks in advance that I might leave then it will soften the blow and it will at least have given him the chance to consider his possible options.

You would be surprised how easily replaceable most people are.

The job market is just pop'n here. I turned down four job offers and left my current postion for a new Sales Rep/Merchandiser postion that I start tomorrow. My territory is pretty much the county I live in, so I don't have that much driving to do. It looks like 2011 will be the year people start going back to work. Yay for economic recovery!!!

Don't forget the double dip and stagflation that's being predicted. :(

I hope you're better prepared than that when you interview!

So after finding this little thread today and spending the last 10 minutes going through these [at time of writing] 13 pages plus the link to the earlier thread, it’s made for some interesting and informative reading. As I’m always late to these threads I’d best catch-up.
Since I’ve mentioned it in several places already I’ll briefly reiterate, yes I am a Postman, its pretty self-explanatory. Aside from waking up at 4am every Saturday, I really enjoy my job as I prefer being outdoors and getting free exercise is a plus. My pay is fair but my hours go up and down which can radically affect my ability to well. Live from one week to the next. Before that I’ve done lots of various things but only technically had four jobs --including my current-- since leaving school. I too as mentioned by others was quite directionless after leaving school (in hindsight I should have put some thought into it) as such I’m quite intelligent, apparently, with a moderately high level of education but lack drive to apply that to anything serious. I once was at the third stage of interview with a certain high profile Government Intelligence division but lost out due to mitigating circumstances... this would ideally be my dream job.

I qualify on the 11th but there are no jobs up. Apparently there are at least 10 medical staff posts 'pending' and have been for the last 4 weeks or so now, so its just waiting for them to be put up and going through the application process and praying it doesn't take too long

Um... if you hate folk so much Ryan, maybe working in a call centre isn't the best idea.
