Unfortunately, the Byron Review has just brought more attention to gaming and it has driven the tabloids into an apoplectic rage. Evidence, statistics and pragmatism, it seems, is not good enough to placate those with a specific agenda.
In France games and films don't have certificates, but advisory labels if they're violent. The difference? Parents here actually care about what their kids are playing and watching. They don't just throw them in front of the square babysitter and complain that their kids never talk to them or that they're violent.
Parents need to stop looking for excuses for bad behaviour and start looking in the mirror.

Nice summary in todays gamesindustry.biz newsletter... I particularly like their comment on The Times, who in 1816 told readers to keep their daughters away from the new terror sweeping Europe. The waltz.

Look around you, everyone is playing games now. The generation that grew up playing Mario and Sonic now have careers and families. They know games aren't bad, they know what is and isn't suitable for their children. The only people left complaining will be white middle class women with too much time on their hands.
