Also I did 88.7% in just over 12 hours. Not bad, I guess? I could of shaved 3 hours off that time if I didn't go collectible hunting and map exploring before the final boss

You took too much metroid baggage into playing it.

Don't get me wrong, I like Samsun Returns quite a bit, but it just kind of fits in with all my other memories of Metroids. Apart from the boss fights there's little that stands out from a gameplay perspective, despite still being very enjoyable

Is it just me or is the Metroid Fusion Samus costume the best one?

It features in the current issue of Retro Gamer (#174 with Xbox on the cover). The Retro Inspired article talks to the people involved and explains how it built on Metroid 2.

Finally got back to this game. Picked up right after I got the super missiles and managed to get a bunch more really cool power ups
Probably won't be doing much backtracking until I feel confident I have enough powers to get through any obstacles, just to cut down on the time wasting.

Finished this today. The final fight came up rather abruptly, I wanted to explore more but ended up beating the final boss and not bothering to get the last few items I needed, mainly as you don't get much reward wise for 100%ing the game. Loved the game though, boss fights got better the more abilities you got and the counter mechanic never hindered my fun at all. And I do appreciate the game being more transparent in terms of where items are hidden. Not sure where I'd rank it in terms of my favourite Metroid games, but I definitely had a great time with it, it was nice just to play another 2D Metroid again! Now to get to Metroid Prime 3 ready for its upcoming sequel.

Own it, never played it. I blame the bosses in Prime 2 taking 10 years to beat. Ok, not really but some of those bosses in Prime 2 felt like they took forever to beat, and I'm still angry at how the whole Alpha Blogg boss fight area was designed.

Play Prime 3. It’s the best one.

Its on the list. I loved Prime 1, and most of Prime 2 bar a couple of bosses and I know enough about Prime 3 to be sure I'll love it. Just need to get a couple more games off my 2017 list and I'll be ready to put a greater focus on my backlog finally. Well, unless 2018 is just as relenting in great single player games.

That's a straight up lie.

I've also recently begun playing Samus Returns and I'm not entirely convinced yet. Metroid as a whole is probably my favorite franchise but something here just feels off. the way you acquire upgrades feels rather random and I don't like how the bosses so far have all been the same. I know it's a GB title but people have been saying this felt like a totally new game. Which it doesn't. It's still 8bit kinds of limited. I need to get into that mindset and try again properly.

It's also the first game I hate playing on 3DS thanks to its over-reliance on shoulder buttons. Really uncomfortable.

I know you think Prime 1 is the best one because it’s the first one, but play those games back to back and tell me 3 isn’t superior in every single way

I did when the Trilogy came out and still stand by it. The only thing I noticed when playing them again is that Echoes is way better than I rembered and pretty much on the same level as Corruption while Prime remains the best.
