definately shadow of the colossus.
with an honourable mention to Dead rising

while some games have been better, they were definately the most "satisfying"

I'm really getting stuck into Castlvania Portait of Ruin. I forgot how much I loved these types of adventure games. New Super Marios Bros. was pretty good although I've not played it since beating it, I also quite enjoyed Outrun 2006.

My most played games of last year (ESPgaluda, Mushihimesama and Radiant Silvergun) wern't released in 2006.

I'm hoping for a better 2007.

Pretty much echoing what others have said-

Canim Canis Edit- for the characters and general interactions with the world around you
Oblivion - for the depth and the unexpected flashes of humour
GoW - for the online experience
Dead Rising - for finally being the game that filled a mall full of zombies and let you run amock

Dead Rising without a doubt. The whole atmosphere of the game. I've played it several times through and there's always more to do (Unless you've managed to kill all psychos, save all survivors and finish all the case files in one go  ). As I've said somewhere else on this forum, I also love the variation in Achievements. It's the first game where I've actively tried to get most of them.

Also, Tony Hawk Project 8 deserves a mention. Although it can be frustratingly hard at times, it has gone back to the series roots which is where I was hoping it would be heading.

Dead Rising - The ability to kill a psychotic clown by shooting balloons. Take that Pennywise!

(Although why were some of the early NPCs such retards - Aaron, in particular; lost count of the many times I was tempted to leave him behind, or had to go back and get him - while later ones were very handy with a shotgun/machine gun - Kindell/Brent? And only some women can handle handguns/submachine guns; WTF?)

I really enjoyed Tomb Raider: Legend and always seem to be playing the game as some of my gaming friends employ my skills to complete all the time trials for them! (I'm not certain what they want more - the Gamerpoints or the bikinis!!! :D )

I also enjoyed playing Enchanted Arms and Prey - perhaps not two of the best-received games of 2006, but I completed both and thoroughly enjoyed each gaming journey.

Oh, and the Wii made Xmas 2006 more fun!

My gaming highlights for 2006 would be:

Fight Night Round 3 (360): Have always been a fan of the series, but this latest reincarnation was simply outstanding.

WWE Smackdown Vs. Raw (360): This was the first WWE game I've ever played and have spent far too many hours on it so far.

Tomb Raider Legend (360): It's good to have Lara back to her old self again. Not quite up there with the best of the series, but damn close. Looking forward to Tomb Raider 10th Anniversary.

Veautiful Joe (PS2): I know it's been out a while, but for me it's a new game. So refreshing, unique and an absolute blast.

Gears of War (360): Breathtaking. Possibly one of the best games I've ever played.

Either God Hand or Ultimate Ghosts ’n Goblins purely because as fiendishly hard as they were, I still managed to finish them. :D
