I've also had my fair share of verbal abuse online, though it has to be said that I would actually have to value such people's opinion in order to be offended by it - which of course I don't.
I remember one time on Halo 2 when an American on the opposite team kicked off by saying the usual "you noobs have already lost" bravado. My team promptly whooped the guy in question, much to our amusement, but it was what happened after that was memorable.
When we got into the post game lobby, he just kept saying typical insults like "you suck" and "stupid English *beep*" etc, etc. I came up with the idea for our team to just say "yeah but you lost" (which really wound him up - no matter what they say they can't deny defeat). This went on for the best part of 10 minutes and the guy was still trash talking us! So after what seemes like ages we just left the loser on his own to languish in his sea of empty insults.
If there's one thing I've learned from my experience on Xbox Live, it's that the mute button is your friend. Now whenever I don't like the sound of anybody I just mute them immediately and save myself the hassle of listening to their drivel - definitely recommended!

i dunno ive had very few problms with XBL.
Not played it since halo 2 was released, but i was always getting friend request from yanks, they just referred to me as the crazy scotsman.
I think its cause i tend to go hyper and just make lots of randiom comments, i have great fun on there.
One that particularly stands out in my mind was playing in blood gulch in halo2 and just starting and me going RAAGHHH!!! and so forth, saw everyone chage in random directions (cue one person to give orders) so i went down to where the warthog was parked to see a spartan spinning round looking everywhere with the bomb, curious i walked over to get :-
"excuse me sir, will you help?"
Taken aback by this incredibly polite yet VERY young sounding american i agreed. He wanted to drop the bomb in the enemy base yadda ydadd but needed someone to drive. Turns out he was i think 8-9 years old!!!
He was just SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO polite, and very refreshing, dropped him off, we scored, big whoops all round and he cheered, was quality
or a canadian in my team taunting the all the yanks in the other team by singing falsetto "let the bodies hit the floor, let the bodies hit the floo"
they didnt take kindly to that xD

On Steel Battalion it was generally 'we lost, oh well, whatever, let's play again' except for one guy. Dodge something or other was his username, and once we got back to the endgame lobby, having lost, he'd swear and shout and cuss out his team mates for getting in his way, not listening to what he was telling us to do, not performing certain tactical manouevres etc.
It was funny at first, but in the end I refused to play a game with him, he was such a sore loser.

Won a game of UNO - which makes it even more ridiculous - for a teenager to give me the finger over his cam. Very, very sad.

ROFLCOPTOR!!!
He gave you a finger over his cam?!?! priceless!!
I would have been wetting myself.
Possibly one of my faves was getting ready for a game of PGR2. We where in the lobby and two mates where having a discussion about what ever (dont speak the language) and along came an american. At which point he began to give all sorts of abuse, most of it racial and anti chinese.
This went on for a good 3 mins, and when he stopped there was a stunned silence, at which piped up :-
"dude theyre speaking french not chinese"
He logged after that, much to the hilarity of everyone else in the room!!

I know - I tried to get another game with him, just to ask what he was thinking that had achieved, but never saw him again. Probably for the best!
