It actually makes me angry that these people can mislead people this way.

Fact: Video games aren't just for "fun" anymore, the video game industry made a net income of $6.3 billion in 2002, surpassing even the movie industry. Developers profit and continue to take advantage of today's youth with cute, loveable, addictive, and recognizable franchise characters. A practice and strategy similar to those used by the tobacco industry.

...And that isn't used by almost everything else ever advertised?

If it's a multimillion pound industry we're going to get our gaming fix regardless of pundits like this. The tobacco industry was in a similar position but maintained it's number one spot, and it's products gave people cancer!

The thing is though, as a hoax it's pretty convincing. It's only a few steps away from Trevor McDonald's Tonight special and the Daily Mail's articles on Bully.

There are a ton of websites like that on the web, which makes it difficult for the average person to know what's true from what's not.

You might ask though, why people are willingly trying to deceive the population?

Simple. It's only there to prove one thing : people usually don't check the validity of their sources.

This is exactly like a guy here in Canada, who MORE THAN ONCE, fooled the media by changing his name to some doctor of scientific and organized a bogus conference on something he invented... nothing too weird, all was believable and conceivable, but it was still BOGUS information nonetheless.

And almost each time, the thing made the news as legitimate information...

So seriously, that tells a lot about the world we live in.

When you can't seriously trust the news anymore for giving accurate information because they don't check their sources themselves, how can you really trust anything on the web, operated by any Joe out there?

It only shows that it's rather important today, to ALWAYS check their source of information and verify by yourself if what they're saying is true. I know, it's more work on our parts, but hey, that's the price to pay if you don't want to be treated like a moron who will swallow anything offered to him. Not that you are, but many people in the industry think you are. And are profitting from that.
