Bad rep for bad retailers

Post by therealjaxon » Sat Aug 03, 2013 1:16 pm

This is something i want to try and have mentioned it in the bargains thread.

I will put a poll in the bargains thread, this will be a list of what we regard as bad retailers who have f***ed us over so we can give them a big thumbs down.

The point of this thread is to explain how it works and this is also the place to bitch about your experience (or PM me if you don't want everyone reading your potty mouth language  ).
If it's regarded as genuinely poor service I'll add the retailers name to the poll and you can give them your thumbs down vote.

Another thing, the reason there isn't a good rep poll for retailers as it's not really necessary. We should all assume retailers are good until proven otherwise, just like justice - innocent until proven guilty.

All clear?.......Off you go then :)

I've started the ball rolling with:
Blockbuster - Two occasions of sending out shoddy 2nd hand games and I mean really shoddy. Two of the discs were really badly scratched, no manuals and the cases were grubby as hell.

Play.com - I had to have four replacements for a game that they sent me because they insisted on sending it in a jiffy bag and it was crushed everytme, they ignored my request for it to be boxed.

Grainger Games - Twice I've ordered off them and both times my 'new' items looked second hand.

Play.com for me as well. Nothing really wrong with the games I got but delivery was bloody slow...
Game.co.uk is a similar story, they took a good week and a bit to go from me ordering the game to it actually being delivered. Now I'm incredibly impatient (hence why I use Shopto all the time!) but it took them the better part of a week to post out a game which is to slow in my opinion.

Play.com for breaking consumer law by not
giving me a exchange on a game. They claimed
it was out stock but really the item had just gone up
in price and was from a different batch so wasn't
the same product they claimed. Item was far cry 2
steel book and if I wanted another copy I'd have to
pay £39.99 and not the £17.99 I paid in the mega
Monday offer.

I know others who they've done this to.

Shopto but only when it comes to special editions.
Every special Ed they sent me (bar one) was
chucked in a Jiffy bag and got damaged.
Alan Wake S.E. bent box. Duke Nukem balls of
steel, completely crushed.

Blockbuster. Game was meant to be new but case
was badly damaged and disc had lots of marks on it.

Play.com is a marketplace website though. You order a game from a specific seller on the site, not actually from play.com itself. So it really depends on what seller you choose to buy your game from. I can't say I've had any bad experiences on it, and I even sell my games on PlayTrade and have had no problems.

It wasn't when I ordered far cry 2. It was directly from
play.com themselves.

When did you order it? Play.com is now a marketplace site

Far cry 2 is years old and look at the price he paid, £17.99. Its only been a marketplace for about 4-5 months now and FC2 can be bought for a hell of a lot less than that price.

Tesco- I'm not sure i should blame Tesco or thE postman but either ways didn't expect my TLoU Joel Edition to be squeezed into a cardboard envelope and then forced through my letterbox. The packaging was definitely to small for the product and I think that's why the postman thought it would fit.

I'll add shopto as they ruined my Goldeneye special edition by placing it in a jiffy bag, when I wanted a replacement they said it was out of stock and gave me a £1 refund
A week later it was back in stock

Edit: It seems my cunning plan may not work. If I add another name to the list, the poll resets :(
I will carry on with this though, the results will.just be in a slightly different format -keep voting!

Years ago. The game hadn't been out for long at all.
That's why I jumped at the offer. So I didn't pay a silly
price.

Same thing happened to me with Shopto and Red Steal 2. Box was crushed because they put it in a jiffy back. Now I don't want the box anyway but I'd never order a SE from them that I want in good condition as I think they only put stuff in jiffybags (unless its a piece of hardware).

Hmmm are ShopTo that bad for CEs? I've got two this month (Killer is Dead and One Piece Pirate Warriors 2) so I would actually be mega-peeved if they came damaged (especially One Piece since its £75) - How are GAME for posting CEs?

I would not buy a CE from any of the retailers above.
GAME and Amazon are super safe imo.

Never had any issues with Shopto in regards to CE, I've had lads from them with no hiccups.

Game on & HMV the other hand have both played the problem with your card trick when they don't have stock to fulfil orders.

Amazon I never order from anymore as I've never had them dispatch a game on time for release.

Best retailer out there at moment IMO is Simply Games Ive had new release as early as the Wednesday from them on more than one occasion. If you order a larger item from them such as a CE they give you an hour window when it will be delivered.
