It has lots of brains. Other vital organs too.

It's Die Hard style clever. The thing it's doing is dumb but it does it in a really smart way

You're talking to me. Unless it's Destiny I don't give two hoots. Except if they're fun. Which usually I find they are not.

I'm just wondering how much time I have. Hoping I can finish it before Christmas and thus Last Guardian.

I kind of thought the secrets and challenges were the most fun part of the game

Not if it's mundane fetch quests or tedius trophy grabbing.

Ok I get the impression some light exploring/hunting for secrets it's around 13 hours. Not bad and doable for me in a week or so.

First couple of missions done. Pretty fun. Combats a bit flakey but it's already hinting variety. I can see the secrets are part of the games design; as in it gets you access to better goodies. Not pointless collectathons.

Yeah pretty good.

Done the second area. Starting to get into classic FPS territory. Fight your way to keycards, beat some nasties, retread old paths for key door, find secrets on way, beat more nasties, boss fight.

I'm getting into the combat now. Making sure I'm glory killing for the goodies. When I started I was playing conservative and tactical. Not the way. Old school baby. RUN N BLAST EVERYTHING! AAAAARGH!! I love glory killing the Hell Beasts, punching them in their bulbous heads.

Shotgun is my favourite so far. Good stable reliable weapon. Friend of all FPSers. Think it's one I'll max out first. Speaking of which how many things to level up? Come across a rune stone and opened up a selection of buffs. More stuff to get :) looking forward to unlocking all this; I'll be a right bad ass.

Shame the missus is off when I am over the festive period :x

For me I just think Doom is a game that's less than the sum of it's parts. I actually found the unlocking of stuff more fun than the combat. Which shouldn't be right, really. Not in this game. Maybe it would of benefitted from one difficulty higher than normal.

I get what you mean. I said earlier it feels a bit flakey, it's not as punchy (pun) as I'd like.

Still. I like the design so far. It's just old school. Reminds me quite a bit of Duke Nukem 3D which I played loads. Stick some quips and tiddies in there and were golden.

Funny quote about this game's story and characters on the GB GotY podcast yesterday

"I've been doing this a long time. Hell demons. No good. And no I don't have time to stop and tell you why"
