Instructional DVD!?Shadowman wrote:Especially as the game has an in game tutorial anyway. Thankfully most of it is dealt with using sign posts you can read so it doesn't clog up the flow of the game. Plus thats only really for the first 2 stages, after that the difficulty picks up nicely.therealjaxon wrote:If you ask me, if you need an instruction dvd to play video games - you shouldn't be playing them

i think it's good they give away a DVD. it's not like when a lot of us started gaming, you move right and jump and figure it out as you go. if someone owns a wii and wants to play a game but have only played wii sports, there should be less barriers to entry as possible. more people playing games the better.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2
I'd be interested at checking out the DVD if it includes stuff like the hint/1UP videos that NSMB Wii used, those were awesome displays of skill. But from the gist of it, it seems like just a long tutorial.

I agree, but an instructional DVD, the super guide and in-game tutorial makes the game sound like its impossibly hard! I've always found the most significant entry when playing games with my relatives are the controls - mainly due to unfamilarity with playing with a pad. If the controls are simple (stick/d-pad to move and one or two buttons to use), then everyone usually has fun. I don't have a problem with them handing out an instructional DVD, but if the super guide and tutorial is not enough then your probably not going to get that far into SMG2. I had enough problems with the first in places!maf-me-quick wrote:i think it's good they give away a DVD. it's not like when a lot of us started gaming, you move right and jump and figure it out as you go. if someone owns a wii and wants to play a game but have only played wii sports, there should be less barriers to entry as possible. more people playing games the better.

This game is going to get harder later on, I can see that evevn from my (relatively) limited playtime thus far. I hit a nice little spike on an early (but optional) level, although I'll be honest it was due to poor execution on my part and the frustration of having spin mapped to waggle. But I agree with Maf, games have changed so significantly over the last 10-15 years that you can't rely on it being immediately obvious what to do in games anymore or how to do it.AntLibertine wrote:I agree, but an instructional DVD, the super guide and in-game tutorial makes the game sound like its impossibly hard! Are you talking about the level where you have to spin to swap the platforms round? That level caused me to die several times, not due to the spinning just that the chain chomps cornered me and pushed me off the platforms!Mooglepies wrote: This game is going to get harder later on, I can see that evevn from my (relatively) limited playtime thus far. Well mine's been FINALLY despatched via game...what is wierd though is that it looks like it's been sent via Parcel Force instead of normal Royal Mail etc. that GAME usually use...how strange hmmm
As long as it comes tomorrow i'll be a happy bunny, but i still think it's unlikely.

Shadow: that's the one, yes. Bastard of a level that was, lost 6 lives there. Damned good fun though.
Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2
I've heard a similar thing happening to someone else who recently pre ordered with Shopto this last couple of days and getting it dispatched immediately. Quite worrying and no doubt frustrating for those that have had it pre ordered for months.Mr Marvellous wrote:Blakey wrote:Well mine's been FINALLY despatched via game...what is wierd though is that it looks like it's been sent via Parcel Force instead of normal Royal Mail etc. that GAME usually use...how strange hmmm

It will likely need a signature if its parcel force best make sure somebodies in.
In other bizarre shop to news, we all now shadows got his already, well mine has been dispatched and I only ordered it last night at 11pm yet still my cousin & my mates has not even been processed yet.![]()
We could have another great pre-order scandal!!!

It's probably because with GAME you get the free Mario Galaxy tin so then it's a parcel - luckily for me someones always at home, don't want none of that going up the post office after tea to wait in a mile long queue.Blakey wrote:Well mine's been FINALLY despatched via game...what is wierd though is that it looks like it's been sent via Parcel Force instead of normal Royal Mail etc. that GAME usually use...how strange hmmm

Going back to the instructional dvd (you all post too quick for me!) - i think there should be an option for no help at all in game - HARDCORE mode!

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2
the help is optional. you don't have to let the game play for you, watch the video's, or look at the DVD. but it's nice that it's there. who knows if you may need it. judging by some reviews the game can be pretty brutal, though i doubt it's that bad. also, if it's like NSMBW watching some mario expert go through the levels is damn impressive.
it's just hit me; it's a day away.
today is going to be the longest day ever!

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2
Just did a load more levels, I can't believe how many little nods they've managed to put in from fast Mario games
Hammer Bros, The Ghost House, Mario World inspired castle level designs etc. Its all so good!
The Prankster Comets are still in the game and really ramp up the difficulty on some of the levels - mainly due to speed runs or purple coin challenges. They are the toughest of the lot so far but are still really fun to do.
And I know I've mentioned it before but I really do like the fact Nintendo have put in far more 2D gameplay sections this time round. One level based around the Bee Suit is purely 2D and is one of my favourite levels of the game so far.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2
Just got mine today - nice of GAME to be as reliable as usual with their packaging.....they packed my nice tin case in a jiffy bag
Needless to say it had to be bent back into shape.
Can't play mine as yet though as it's also a b'day present for my kid
