yeah, i agree, i think the life system is there for tradition, but pointless. because it saves after every level, so even if you get game over, it's just a delay to get straight back in to what you are doing, not a penalty. still, if it was gone, all the extra lives they put on the far out platforms wouldn't be there, and yet they're still tempting to turn down.

Love the ones on the far off or suicidal platforms....why wouldn't you run into giant enemy bullets to grab that elusive 1-up, even though you already have 50 lives?

I'm up to 155 stars now and the game has gotten better still. The Green Star hunt isn't as hard as I thought to actually find the stars - the opening little intro to each level usually highlights at least one of the Green Star locations and most others are usually in plain sight but its figuring how to reach them thats the real challenge. Some have you making suicidal jumps in Lava or the great abyss trying to reach them and others sit just out of reach taunting you while you try and gain enough altitude to reach them

i haven't played this for a while because of watching E3 stuff, but i jumped back in to it this morning and, man, it was an onslaught of tough challenges. hundred purple coins on rotating platforms, bowser level speed runs, getting the comet coin on the 2nd fluzzard stage, rolling the star ball level speed run, chomp works filled with cosmic clones. some of them prankster comet levels are bastards.

You've pretty much named all of the levels that I found annoying in the gamemaf-me-quick wrote:i haven't played this for a while because of watching E3 stuff, but i jumped back in to it this morning and, man, it was an onslaught of tough challenges. hundred purple coins on rotating platforms, bowser level speed runs, getting the comet coin on the 2nd fluzzard stage, rolling the star ball level speed run, chomp works filled with cosmic clones. some of them prankster comet levels are bastards.

Started this myself the other day and am about 8 stars into. It just reeks of that Nintendo goodness. It's been a long time since I have smiled so much whilst playing the game, and when I found the Toad Brigade and the same music started playing, I got a massive grin for some reason.

Thankfully not, same as Galaxy there is Purple coin challenges for some galaxies but not all of them. Some Galaxies have you fight the boss again (only you can't take any damage this time) or have you do speed runs on the levels.Mr Marvellous wrote:is there a star per level for getting 100 coins like in past Mario games

Exactly, and how many games make you want to do that?maf-me-quick wrote:because you'd be missing out on some of the fun.
Only three stars per level has impressed me(my main gripe with 3d Mario in the past) Some of the speed runs are insane and whenever you hear 'cosmic Mario' I do start to panic straight away. Loving the Rock suit and its associated 'bowling' levels too, yet oddly my favourite so far has been "Throwback Galaxy" although i'm not even upto world 8 yet....damn Prankster comets.Shadowman wrote:Thankfully not, same as Galaxy there is Purple coin challenges for some galaxies but not all of them. Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2
i finally got all 120 stars a little while a go. go me. that cosmic clones wicked wall jump level was a ****. i came so close to that being my first game over. there's a 1-up straight after the check point, and i had to make sure i could get that because i was fighting between 1 and 0 lives. phew.
tried getting the first couple of green stars, got the first one, couldn't find the second. i'll try get them as well, but it looks doubtful, although i really, really want to.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2
The green stars aren't to hard to find if you listen out for them - you can hear their signature sound once you get close to them. Its reaching some of them that is a pain! Some of the ones on the extra world were a pain to reach (especially the second one on the wall jumping stage as you still had the clones to contend with as well as reaching this star
). I'm up to 188 stars and should manage to nab the rest over the weekend.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2
Well i completed this today, and whilst i did enjoy my playthrough quite a bit it still wasn't an earthshatteringly good game for me personally.
Took me 13 1/2 hours which is quite a healthy amount of time i must say, i did enjoy it and it is full of innovation from start to finish don't get me wrong, but i just felt whilst playing it like i feel whilst i feel playing all Mario games...take it or leave it really, i could have given up at any second and i wouldn't have been too bothered about it...however i am glad i stuck with it this time and completed it, first Mario game completed EVER!

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2
When i say "completed" i mean i've finished the last boss battle and seen the credits roll, i seriously can't be arsed to get anywhere near all the stars in the game unless someone payed me a serious amount of money.Mr Marvellous wrote:You got all the stars that quick, wow!!!
I got 71 in the end and i'm happy with that
