I've now managed to get all 120 Gold Stars and move onto the green stars. Most of them so far have been really easy to find either because they are basically in plain view or because of the sound they make when you are close. Getting them is another matter entirely! Its a really fun and challenging bonus.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2
i'm in the 6th world now and the levels just keep getting better. the thing with the revolving stones and the lava monsters trying to eat you was incredible! in the boo world with the pop-up book page platforms, and the moving purple floors from mario world and the perspective changes to the side and upside down and mario is tiny in comparison GoW3 style. or the bit on the sand slide with the things coming down behind you. fantastically terrific. obviously not set pieces per say, but just pure spectacle this game out does even uncharted 2 for me with just pure wonder. i much prefer what it's feeding my eyes, y'know? sometimes i stop what i'm doing in the game just to take it all in.
the only thing i haven't liked doing so far is the "burn the boxes with the fire flower" challenge. but i've only had to do that twice and it took me at a total of 5 minutes to do both so. pfft. best game i've played in, i dunno, forever? there is no other game i'd want to play over this.

i've had to stop for a bit. just did one of the stars on throwback galaxy and lost it. it's funny how small the mario 64 level looks after you've played a bunch of others. fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. that music. the bomb-omb guy goes "you look familiar, moustache."
i'm glad the little bits of talking there are have been cued from the mario & luigi series. can't believe i'm at 74 stars or something and there is still so much to do!

You say that but people probably said the same after Super Mario Bros 3, then Super Mario World and Super Mario 64....Its almost as if Nintendo create the 'next' thing during production of the current Mario and hold it back for a couple years.maf-me-quick wrote:i said this after the first SMG but, i'm definitely right this time, and what i said was; this is it. no more mushroom kingdom, no more "realistic" physics, no more mario. that is it. platformers are done.time for every one to crack on and innovate with every other genre because this one is finished. i'll welcome more platformers, sure, but there is nothing left to do. i'm sure this time.
I hated the Spring power-up in SMG, the honour this time goes to the Hot Chili Yoshi...grrr

maybe. people were saying them games were going to be some of the all time greats, but this is like, i dunno. this is like, as close to perfection as platformers are going to get. i think at least. why did jeff gerstmann not review this game?Pious the chosen wrote:You say that but people probably said the same after Super Mario Bros 3, then Super Mario World and Super Mario 64....Its almost as if Nintendo create the 'next' thing during production of the current Mario and hold it back for a couple years.maf-me-quick wrote:i said this after the first SMG but, i'm definitely right this time, and what i said was; this is it. no more mushroom kingdom, no more "realistic" physics, no more mario. that is it. platformers are done.time for every one to crack on and innovate with every other genre because this one is finished. i'll welcome more platformers, sure, but there is nothing left to do. i'm sure this time.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2
Is anyone else finding the save system in this game a bit strange?
At the end of World one on Thurs last week i saved it went down to have dinner, came back to it afterwards and when i got onto World two i suddenly had like 10 lives instead of the 29/35 i had at the end of world one?
I found this really strange and annoying but thought oh well that's probably just the designers trying to make it a little bit more challenging for me.
However, i did the same thing another night, returned and i still had my 20 lives from the previous world in tact...which makes no sense whatsoever.
I just want to keep my hard-earned lives and not be cheaply docked lives for just completing a world, so is this just my Wii making a feck up or is this just what the game does?

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2
the game takes your lives away if you quit out and start agin, but it doesn't dock them from world to world.
