I've picked this up but not had a chance to play on it yet due to my other half stealing my DS to play Spore.

I'm back on the train every day now tho, so I should get some hours put into it - first DS game I have bought for ages.

Cross that bridge and you'll find the 35000G soon enough

Just got through Chapter One on this, I know everyone's said it but... those Scottish accents were classic, really well done, made me want to play an Oor Wullie RPG.

I'm sorry to leave those guys behind :(

The battle system is perfect in this, exactly what I like in an RPG, and the game looks beautiful as well. So many times I've just given it a 360 spin just to marvel at how smoothly the angles all change. And it provided a genuine laugh when I caught the wee Scottish boy who'd been spying on people in the bath-house.

First Dragon Quest game I've played as well, are they all like this..?

The scottish accents were worth the price of the game alone!

The PS2 DQ is the same style but with fancier graphics - I'd recommend it

Yeah,DQ VIII:The journey of the cursed king is great. It's made by the Level 5 guys (Proffessor layton,Dark chronicle,Rogue galaxy) and once you hear king trode speak you'll never look at yoda quite the same way again.

The GameCentral guys are usually always spot on but said this in there DQ IV review today-"In fact the only reason they don't get our unequivocal praise is the ill-advised decision to use thick regional accents for different areas on the map.The attempts at Scottish,Irish and Russian brogue are flat out embarassing,in a script that still lacks any wit or flair."...naaaw!....Get tae f*ck! :x

Proof they're wrong.

You can't beat that. Plus it makes for some cheerily odd message board discussions...

I'm guessing Square-Enix Europe localised it like DQ8?
There's no way some Americans could get that so spot on!

I'm really enjoying it so far. I wasn't hooked straight away but I love it! The regional accents are ace and give the game a lot of charm. However, both this and Final Fantasy IV seem to have suffered at retail:

I'm slightly gutted at this and hope the next two ds ports along with Dragon Quest IX still make it to the UK.

Yeah this is such an enjoyable game to play, and explore, brimming with invention and nice little touches. There's so much stuff in there that has f all to do with the story or gameplay but is just there to make you smile or whatever, i love it!

I'm a small bit into Chapter 5 (i like how the game goes full circle). Not done much though as i spent about 2 hours in the casino thinking of getting the falcon blade but in the end i ran out of patience. Stopped at about 13000 tokens, well short of my target 65000 lol! Picked up a meteorite bracer and just got on with the game.

I'm about eight hours in and just started chapter four, really enjoying it, I like the fact it's pretty simple but everything all slots together nicely. The stories also unfold in a really smart way- it's so much better than the dreary FF : Crisis Core. I quite like the occasional screw up where you end up carting around a bunch of coffins behind you :)

I'm on Chapter Five now, seem to be getting my head kicked in a bit more than before. Still near the start of Chapter Five, haven't *spoiler* hooked up Rygar yet though I've just got my mucky hands on the Magic Key- most of my gang is around level 17. Is that low? Should I take a few hours out for a grind-a-thon?

I just got the magic key too. You've a tough boss ahead of you though, that Marquis de Leon chap or whatever his name is. My team were at random levels between 14 and 18 and he beat me. Did a bit of grinding and now everyone's over level 20 with my Hero having the Dragonsbane and everyone in tip-top armour. I'm hoping i can beat him now. My main team is Hero, Alena, Torneko and Borya - but this fight really makes you think about using all of your characters, Kiryl's Kabuff is essential, and one of those twins has Fizzle too i think, the move that prevents enemies from casting magic, that would be useful against him.
