Firstly, it’s not ‘sir’ it’s ‘sensei’ and your video game ability is pathetic and laughable

It will be fixed

wrt Kingdom Come which is being talked about a lot atm

I've been following the developer of this game the past few years and he's a controversial fellow to say the least. He's got a lot of stick over the years for not including 'POC' (people of colour) in his game because it is, according to him, against the historical record and just a further example of modern social mores impinging his creativity and historical revisionism and such. Which could be true or false I've got no idea of anything to do with Bohemian history. But a lot of people think he's a great big sexist and racist among other stuff.

There's an interesting trend in certain gaming circles to pillory an entire game studio for one errant voice on twitter, whether it's that Subnautica fellow or the guy who's project lead on Last Night. An attitude of 'my politics compel me not to support this'. Which is fine I suppose. You've got that problem in literature as well. There's a writer called Louis Celine who wrote great novels but also supported the Vichy Regime. Leni Riefenstahl was one of the greatest female film directors of the twentieth century spent the latter part of her career making Nazi propaganda films. And so on.

(I don't think this Kingdom Come guy is comparable to either of the above for what it's worth cause he contends it's all about being faithful to the history and another crowd says that's not the point. It just sounds real complicated tbh).

But again it makes me think about Dragon Quest and why not as many people go and take up arms to boycott that one when its composer denies that Japan did anything wrong in WWII. :|

I'm pretty good at ignoring this kind of stuff. As you say games are team efforts so why should I not play something that looks promising and reward 50 people for making it because one guy on the team was an asshole? If the game itself hasn't any racist/sexist/whatever message but just that one person on the team I couldn't care less.

I did history in college. About as useful to me now as a chocolate toenail but I guess I'm interested in stuff like this for that reason.

I looked a bit more and he seems a troll asshole kind of guy and not someone I'd share anything in common with (he listens to Burzum, ew). But if the history is what he says it is, if the source are there to back the point up, then I feel like I'd agree with him.

Now that this game is out the whole thing will probably get rehashed again on the Polygons and Kotakus and such.

One little nugget of history that has always stuck in my head was that Moroccan slavers would often raid Cornwall for fresh body's.

Also the Roman Empire left many non europeans dotted around their old territory's, with the whole scheme of giving retired legionaries land in the furthest reaches of its empire to protect and Romanise the lands.

And throughout the so called dark ages trade routes keep up all the way to china, so there was always other peoples about but mostly just traders or slaves.

Mind you there was countless pogroms after the collapse of central Roman dominance, so he may be factually correct for the regions the game is set in but I doubt it.
The goal of our culture now is not the emancipation of the individual from the group, but the permanent definition of the individual by the group.
We used to call this bigotry.
Now we call this being woke.

The System Shock remake is 'on hiatus' due to feature creep it sounds like.

I'm guessing it's cancelled then.
