Gamestm gives bad reviews to games if they don't like the games. Though, for some reason, the conspiracy theorist in me is screaming about the couple of suspicious packages that may have been swapped to slipstream a ten for Bioshock, pretty game but a game that ultimately underwhelms.

Bioshock Worthy of a ten, Halo3 needed a 7 so I reckon that is the game in question, especially with who the publisher is :)

Some more rumours about the firing...

It makes for depressing reading. If a massive site like Gamespot can't seem to stand up to advertisers, what hope is there for objectiveness from smaller sites with even less leverage?

Well, any reviews from gamespt can now no longer be taken seriously as a result of this. Its going to be impossible to tell which ones a re genuine and which ones aren't. As much as I would not want people to lose their jobs, I think it would be justified if Gamespot closed its doors. Think about how many other games that were reviewed which got biased scores.

Thats the thing. How can gamespots management think firing this guy was a good idea. This does show the advantage printed media has over the internet. A site like gamespots main revenue comes from advertising. Thats essentially the sites only source of income. This problem inst as bad for the printed media.

I imagine thats the case anyway. More of a guess on my part.

Err, advertising is still a significant source of revenue for print magazines...

I'm with you guys on this, in that it's a blow for fair reviews everywhere, but I'm a bit bemused by your surprise about it all. Every form of media suffers from this; how many times have you seen a mediocre film getting 5 star ratings from various sources on it's cover? Many reviewers or sources of reviews take pride in the number of times they can get their reviewer and/or publication printed on the back of a DVD, book, or sticker on a CD.

Not only does the manufactuer and distributor keep providing them with items to review, the reviewers and their publishers get their name in lights for the general public to see. It's a vicious horrible circle of self aggrandisement and publicity, but I don't really know how it can be avoided. As a huge and still growing money making industry games and therefore their reviews are going to suffer in the same manner.

That said, it's still wrong, and despite not agreeing with the Assassins Creed score of 4, I applaud the bravery of GamesTM for drawing their line in the sand.

If im honest this whole fiasco hasn't surprised me and realistically it was only a matter of time before someone lost their job over it. Famitsu has been 'selling' revue scores for years.

Has anyone watched the videoreview that cost him his job. He does come across as a bit of a dickhead.

I've seen him do a lot of video reviews and On The Spot shows and never really noticed that.

I thought the review came across as pretty much an honest opinion, although he did come across as a bit of a spacker...

This has given Gamespot a terrible reputation then IMO because i know i'm going to be thinking 'is that review sincere?' everytime i read one. I wonder if the Assasins Creed is so high because of such a weight on ones shoulders, maybe the reviewer is scared of getting fired? Not good Gamespot not good...
