I'm not so sure. Long term though, doesn't it just represent Gaming homogenisation? Condensing all gaming onto one platform, essentially killing innovation, creative competition et al dead. All of gaming directed from one source doesn't sound like it will ultimately benefit anyone.
It's more in reference to third-party games. I'm not against each platform having its own house style.
So what would be the ideal solution? Cross-Play genres?? Restricted use to multi-platform titles?

You don’t get exciting announcements like MS buying 5 new studios to add to their arsenal without them getting their head fuked first

Honestly, I think 3 console + PC is perfect balance in the force. God knows what will happen when all this streaming shit kicks off, though

We've already got one platform - PC.

It gets most of the PS4 console exclusives, all of the Xbox Console exclusives and more cutting edge indie titles than you can shake your fist at.

It doesn't get the most interesting PS4 exclusives though. In fact I can't think of anything other than Nier (which is not console exclusive anymore).

PC is best for old games and pushing multiplats as hard as possible. But it is missing some vital experiences and do not underestimate the frustration of having a Dragon's Dogma playthrough murdered in cold blood by a broken driver update from Microsoft :x

True.

I mean ultimately PS4, Switch, PC is the best deal (which is what I've got going now) but if you had to homogenise one console/gaming experience then the PC is already ready built to take that on. You can already emulate a lot of Wii U games (and probably Switch in the near future), I know they're not perfect but it's possible, it's just the PS4 exclusives you'd be lacking.

I've honestly never hand on heart had any of the server issues you had with DD either.

Yes I paid £2k ultimately for my PC but it's probably going to last me 5-10 years at this rate and might even be able to match next-gen systems whereas others have paid £450+ for Xbone X, £250 for Xbone S, £1K+ for TVs etc.

And how many times have we seen people complaining of issues while PC gaming?... I get that you think it's the dog's bollocks Blakey but I for one (and there's a hell of a lot more) can't be bothered with that noise I may have to put up with constant patches nowadays with console gaming but I still love the simplicity of it, **** having to think about PC specs.

I also don't believe that a single format would be the death knell of creativity and competition but that's a different matter.

It wouldn’t kill video games but it would make them less exciting

You would see much less hardware innovation for a start and little to no incentive to throw money at risky projects.

It would be like gaming during the early 80s where it was a gold rush of low quality titles that resulted in a mini crash and a landfill of ET games.
